  1. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

FWIW, the City of London is just under 3 square kilometres in area with a resident pupulation of less than 9,000.
  2. Dollfus Restores the Monarchy

For some reason this reminded me of a 1920s song: I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced with the Prince of Wales. It was simply grand, he said "Topping band" and she said "Delightful, Sir"
  3. If Not The Wright Brothers, Then Who?

But for his untimely death trying to raise funds for his work ... Percy Pilcher.
  4. Question on the timing of Chamberlain's guarantee to Poland

Unilateral? Didn't the guarantee to Poland come from France and Britain at the same time? While the 'guarantee' is often mentioned, the formal treaty of 30 March 1939 between Britain, France and Poland seldom gets a mention - even though it arose from a request by Poland for urgent consultations...
  5. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

LOL - Hope that's resolved soon as there are only 2 days left to make your vote!
  6. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

Voting was supposed to open on 5 July (and close on 12 July). It might be due to my advanced age, but I've not been able to spot the voting thread. Any clue?
  7. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

Entries seem to be getting away from the '300 pixels maximum height' rule. Perhaps it would help if the rule were to be included on every competition set.
  8. Richard I has a son

What would this do for Magna Carta?
  9. Instead of the Ardennes offensive in December '44, what should the Germans have done?

Pack up and go home. Although I think that Robert Conroy might have a better (if not plausible) answer. :)
  10. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

Is Which Tyler correct? If so, the challenge would appear to have changed considerably.
  11. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

I'm all for creativity but to be fair to the competitor the flags relate to the conclusion of a Spanish Civil War and I think it logical to assume that many symbols would reflect those of OTL. Below are posters and flags from that OTL conflict, when use of the hammer & sickle was widespread. ...
  12. Who is better, Kirk or Picard?

Picard. This should have been a 'poll'. Make it so.
  13. EPCOT, FL - A Timeline

    The best laid plans .....
  14. Ending to Harry Turtledoves Last War(CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Much ado about ...very little, IMHO. Pity there's nothing like Monty Python's "Summarising Proust (in 15 seconds) Competition" for this series.
  15. AHC: Other countries adopt Nazi view on tobacco

Rather off-time subject wise, but: What if James I (England)/James VI (Scotland) did a bit more arm twisting than in OTL with the people drafting the King James Bible and added all or part of his treatise "A Counterblast to Tobacco" (Perhaps "Revelations Part 2 :))?
  16. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

My vote goes to ... wait ... where do I vote?
  17. The Foresight War

    Many thanks, Grey Wolf.
  18. DBWI: Red White and Who? Doctor Who as an American TV series

Looking back, it's clear why the Doctor Who production never got past one season. Despite the big budget (for the 1960s) and the big names, the concepts involved were far too complex. Lucille Ball did her best as the 'Doctor' but anyone watching just saw Lucy and , this time around, did not love...
  19. Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

Some of the entries exceed the 'maximum height 300 pixels' rule. Perhaps this rule should be repeated whenever a challenge is set.
  20. Comic Book WI: Superman a Villain?

As Kal-El was an illegal alien, if he were evil maybe he'd be called Wetbackman.
