Saturday Morning AU Blocks

THE KINGFISH

Gone Fishin'
If Winnie the Pooh is a TV series first, does this mean The Rescuers is given a slightly bigger budget for its 1977 release?
I would think that the history of Disney films would be very different if Walt was still alive. What they would look like I’m not sure as this larger scenario is still in planning limbo.
What would a Buddy Holly series by Disney even look like? I genuinely want to know.
It would basically kinda be like OTL’s Beatles cartoon with better writing and animation. I’m thinking something of a slice of life show about Buddy Holly and his band trying to work their music.
What else airs alongside Honey Halfwitch at 11:00 AM? Does Sir Blur get more recognition in this timeline?
So far, I was just thinking Honey Halfwitch - specifically the version more like the last 4 shorts IOTL - because Paramount hurriedly rush Honey to television after Disney announced their grand entry into television animation. To keep up demand, Paramount outsources episodes to DC Comic’s animation division Detective Productions (the former Format Films).
Both DePatie-Freleng and CJP are credited alongside Warner Bros. Cartoons. Does this mean the mid-to-late 60s Looney Tunes air first on television?
Yes. ITTL, Jones never makes Gay Purree meaning he isn’t fired from WB. This delay’s Termite Terrace’s planned shutdown long enough for WB to merely downsize it and have animation partially outsourced to Jones and Freleng’s animation studios.
What makes Chip & Dale different from Donald Duck & Friends? Is it just airing different shorts than its predecessor?
I guess so.
Gnomeo and Juliet is a 60s Disney cartoon? I know a lot would change, but exactly how much would?
I’m not sure at the moment. It wouldn’t be a musical that’s for sure.
Fantasia Productions starts off with Astro Boy, Gigantor, and The Smurfs. How can that be topped?

Also, since Hanna-Barbera doesn't have the Smurfs license in the 80s, does this mean they don't have a hit in that decade?
They already move to cable by then.
I see that you can schedule this lineup around Disney and only have room for the other studios at 8, 8:30, and 10 AM. Was this intentional on your behalf?
Truth is, most of this schedule is OTL’s 1965-6 schedule but all reruns are replaced with new Disney content and ABC starts at 9.
Because of the TV animation wing, does this mean there are new-to-TTL Disney shorts in the 60s and 70s?
Yes but they are produced by Feature Animation until about 1968.
Since Grantray-Lawrence is the outsourcing studio Disney chooses, who helps Marvel for their Spider-Man cartoon of the time?
They still make Spider-Man I think.
Since Fantasia Productions pulls from outside Japan, does this mean European animation becomes more well-known thanks to Walt Disney's global reach?
Yes.
Finally, are The Smurfs, Bugs Bunny, Magilla Gorilla, Captain Kangaroo, and The Jetsons also broadcast in color in 1965?
No, IIRC, color TV set sales didn’t surpass B&W TV ones until 1968.

I would think that the history of Disney films would be very different if Walt was still alive. What they would look like I’m not sure as this larger scenario is still in planning limbo.
That's understandable. Plus, the three Pooh featurettes could be TV episodes ITTL.
It would basically kinda be like OTL’s Beatles cartoon with better writing and animation. I’m thinking something of a slice of life show about Buddy Holly and his band trying to work their music.
That's not too bad.
On the one hand, it would need a second season to improve its writing. Whether or not it'll get that, I haven't got a clue.

On the other hand, DC Comics buys Format Films, thus no longer needing to license their comics to Filmation or Hanna-Barbera. That, and a Paramount outsourcing would be better suited to the studio than working on Road Runner cartoons.
Yes. ITTL, Jones never makes Gay Purree meaning he isn’t fired from WB. This delay’s Termite Terrace’s planned shutdown long enough for WB to merely downsize it and have animation partially outsourced to Jones and Freleng’s animation studios.
I'd take a downsizing over a shutdown. Plus, it means we don't get the decline they were on that decade.
I guess so.
Well, they certainly have enough material to cycle through.
I’m not sure at the moment. It wouldn’t be a musical that’s for sure.
In that case, I'm sure it would work very well as Disney's first original TV cartoon premise.
They already move to cable by then.
Really? How? Do they get bought up sooner than 1991?
Truth is, most of this schedule is OTL’s 1965-6 schedule but all reruns are replaced with new Disney content and ABC starts at 9.
I have a feeling @JamieLucaFan01 would like your talent.
Yes but they are produced by Feature Animation until about 1968.
Excellent! It's not just one-shots for most of the 60s and beyond. I really love that.
They still make Spider-Man I think.
That's good. It's the only thing Grantray-Lawrence was known for IOTL.
I thought so, due to Disney animating The Smurfs.
No, IIRC, color TV set sales didn’t surpass B&W TV ones until 1968.
I could've sworn they surpassed black and white beforehand.

Okay, it turns out I would have preferred surpassing the old guard in 1968.
So, in that regard, I'll just assume color TVs had the option to broadcast those particular five shows in black-and-white as well.

(I thought of this idea for a while...)
Instead of buying ABC in 1996, Disney makes it's own television network (a.k.a. Buena Vista Network) in 1983.
What would the Saturday morning schedules for BVN look like?

(I thought of this idea for a while...)
Instead of buying ABC in 1996, Disney makes it's own television network (a.k.a. Buena Vista Network) in 1983.
What would the Saturday morning schedules for BVN look like?
I'd like to kickstart that question for you.

1983-1984:
8:00: Good Morning, Mickey!
8:30: Donald Duck Presents
9:00: Welcome to Pooh Corner
9:30: Dreamfinders
10:00: Mousercise
10:30: Contraption

The Wonderful World of Disney, EPCOT Magazine, Mouseterpiece Theater, Five Mile Creek, Herbie the Love Bug, Tales of the Apple Dumpling Gang, Zorro and Son, Beyond Witch Mountain, and The Adventures of Pollyanna would be in primetime. The final two are OTL pilots that weren't picked up, while Tales of the Apple Dumpling Gang was called Gun Shy in our timeline.

1984-1985:
8:00: Good Morning, Mickey!
8:30: Donald Duck Presents
9:00: Welcome to Pooh Corner
9:30: Dreamfinders
10:00: Adventures of the Gummi Bears
10:30: Mousercise
11:00: Contraption
11:30: DTV

In this timeline, DTV keeps its music video format, but the videos themselves are bookended by hosting segments from Kirk Cameron, who declined Growing Pains to work with Disney.
In addition, Adventures of the Gummi Bears launches a year earlier, but with the connection to the chewy candy being merely a coincidence ITTL.

1985-1986:
8:00: The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse
9:00: Welcome to Pooh Corner
9:30: Dumbo's Circus
10:00: The Wuzzles
10:30: Adventures of the Gummi Bears
11:00: The Raccoons
11:30: DTV

Mousercise, Dreamfinders, and Contraption move to Sunday mornings. The Sunday morning block will not be discussed right now.
Plus, the two anthologies starring Mickey and Donald are merged into a one-hour block featuring both of them. The new intro would be the first bit of new animation starring the classic Disney characters since Mickey's Christmas Carol.
Also, Keith Scott would replace Bill Scott as the voice of Moosel on The Wuzzles, thus giving them a second season at the eleventh hour.

There we go, the first three years for BVN's Saturday morning lineup.

Ooh! Me next!

Saturday Morning Live! schedules (part six)

Season 26 (2017-2018):
8:00 AM: Noddy: The Toyland Detective
8:30 AM: Gadget Boy (2015)
9:00 AM: Scott Pilgrim: Origins
9:30 AM: Tales of Arcadia
10:00 AM: SpongeBob SquarePants
10:30 AM: Welcome to the Wayne
11:00 AM: Rocky and Bullwinkle + Friends
11:30 AM: The Secret Life of Pets Show
12:00 PM: Saturday Morning Live Film Festival
12:30 PM: TV Funhouse (2014)

Note:
  • The Secret Life of Pets Show is basically me butterflying the theatrical sequel which had three separate plots mashed together. Honestly, I think these storylines work better if they were separate and became the first three episodes of the series.

Season 27 (2018-2019):
8:00 AM: Noddy: The Toyland Detective
8:30 AM: Gadget Boy (2015)
9:00 AM: Back to Backspace

10:00 AM: SpongeBob SquarePants
10:30 AM: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
11:00 AM: Rocky and Bullwinkle + Friends
11:30 AM: The Secret Life of Pets Show
12:00 PM: Saturday Morning Live Film Festival
12:30 PM: TV Funhouse (2014)

Note:
  • Back to Backspace is greenlit by NBC after four years being stuck as a TV pilot for Cartoon Network.

Season 28 (2019-2020):
8:00 AM: Noddy: The Toyland Detective
8:30 AM: Trolls: The Beat Goes On!

11:30 AM: Woody Woodpecker!
12:00 PM: Saturday Morning Live Film Festival
12:30 PM: TV Funhouse (2014)

Notes:
  • Nickelodeon cartoons move to CBS following the remerging of said network and Viacom.
  • The 2019 Woody Woodpecker! cartoon features better character designs, longer writing to fit within the runtime and plenty of traditional animation. No offense to people who like the 2018 cartoon, but I think this works better.

Season 29 (2020-2021):
8:00 AM: Madagascar: A Little Wild
8:30 AM: TrollsTopia
9:00 AM: Back to Backspace
9:30 AM: Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

12:00 PM: Saturday Morning Live Film Festival
12:30 PM: TV Funhouse (2014)

Season 30 (2021-2022):
8:00 AM: Madagascar: A Little Wild

  • Because fans asked for it, Tales of the Guardians comes back with brand-new episodes.
  • Another Cartoon Network pilot, Splitting Time is picked up by NBC.

Season 31 (2022-2023):
8:00 AM: TrollsTopia
8:30 AM: Abominable and the Invisible City
9:00 AM: Back to Backspace
9:30 AM: Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight
10:00 AM: DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms
10:30 AM: Tales of the Guardians
11:00 AM: Splitting Time
11:30 AM: Woody Woodpecker!
12:00 PM: Saturday Morning Live Film Festival
12:30 PM: TV Funhouse (2014)

11:00 AM: Splitting Time
11:30 AM: Woody Woodpecker!
12:00 PM: Saturday Morning Live Film Festival
