Saturday Morning AU Blocks

Great!

Glad to help.
Cool.
So, what could Saban bring to Fox Kids in 2000 and beyond?
Well, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Dinozaurs would be a good start, then going all-out by teaming up with Fox in 2001.
Okay.

While both of your ideas are good, I was thinking Hamtaro would work on Fox Kids.
Ok. I'll see about Hamtaro.
1: Who owns Pinball?
USA Communications. It's the result of the merger of Calliope and Nickelodeon.
2: Does Ted Turner actually give Disney an honest chance after the merger, or is it anything like WB's rotten history with their M&A group?
Turner treats it like gold like he did with his OTL properties before TimeWarner came along...........
3: Mind telling me what Planet Orange and Aniverse are about?
I thought at least Planet Orange would ring a bell, but sure.

Planet Orange is Viacom's kids channel launched in 1988 by the same folks that made Nick a (cheating) success for about a decade.

Aniverse takes OTL CN's place as the world's first all-animation network when it's launched in 1989. Initially a joint venture, as of TTL 1999, it's owned by one of the majors or at least a joint venture between the minor film studios.
4: I thought you had plans for Kids WB to launch their cable channel in 2000. What changes?
That 1992 schedule yu saw earlier in the PM was a test schedule.
5: Shouldn't that one be called YAY! or something?
I'm still unsure on the final name............
6: Interesting that Fox Kids is in competition with ABC Family in 1998, rather than being its sister label.
Right.
7: Mind telling me what airs on KidsClick or KUBE, since all the big studios are already competing against each other?
Unsure ATM.
8: Furthermore, how many of these kids cable networks are spinoffs of the earlier ones?
These are the Big 10 alone. None of these ten are spinoffs. Unless you count the SatAM block-based ones.......

YES!
I thought at least Planet Orange would ring a bell, but sure.

Planet Orange is Viacom's kids channel launched in 1988 by the same folks that made Nick a (cheating) success for about a decade.
I mean, Planet Orange did ring a bell to me. But it's still nice they just make their own kids channel.
Aniverse takes OTL CN's place as the world's first all-animation network when it's launched in 1989. Initially a joint venture, as of TTL 1999, it's owned by one of the majors or at least a joint venture between the minor film studios.
That checks out. I'd prefer if it was a joint venture between minor film studios, though.
That 1992 schedule you saw earlier in the PM was a test schedule.
That explains it.
I'm still unsure on the final name............
Understandable.
Unsure ATM.
So am I. That's why I asked.
These are the Big 10 alone. None of these ten are spinoffs. Unless you count the SatAM block-based ones.......
Wouldn't that get a little crowded after a while?

Meanwhile, on the cable field.................

  1. Pinball - formed in 1984 as a result of the merger between Calliope and Nickelodeon.......
  2. Turnerama - formed in 1986 from a revamp of The Disney Channel and moved to basic cable.
  3. Planet Orange - formed in 1988.
  4. Aniverse - formed in 1989
I did logos for the top 4:

Pinball (Calliope-Nickelodeon) logo.png

Turnerama (Turner-Disney Channel) logo.png

Planet Orange logo.png

Aniverse logo.png

Any thoughts?

Great idea.

Okay.

Interesting.

YES!
Ok.
I mean, Planet Orange did ring a bell to me. But it's still nice they just make their own kids channel.
Well, I mean, Viacom would probably still want a kids channel, even after both them and Warner sold off Nickelodeon to USA and that was merged with Calliope to form.
That checks out. I'd prefer if it was a joint venture between minor film studios, though.
I haven't exactly thought of the studios of TTL, but if I do do something with these, I'll keep that in mind.
That explains it.

Understandable.

So am I. That's why I asked.
Ok.
Wouldn't that get a little crowded after a while?
Dang.....................................

Maybe I'll have the revived version of TTL start early enough to encourage more cable networks a lot earlier.
GADDAMN!!!!!!!!!

These are good!

What were the inspirations behind these?

And I see that Planet Orange takes a lot of inspiration from Neptune from @Geekhis Khan's Hensonverse.

And what's the Aniverse font?
I love these logos!
He makes excellent logos!

Look on the bright side. At least their kids channel still has a distinct look resembling OTL!Nick.
I haven't exactly thought of the studios of TTL, but if I do do something with these, I'll keep that in mind.
Thank you. After all, we'd probably have enough of the kids cable network owned by major studios.
Dang.....................................

Maybe I'll have the revived version of TTL start early enough to encourage more cable networks a lot earlier.
That could work. But that's why I asked if some of those later ones were spinoff channels a la Boomerang or Toon Disney, because I wasn't sure how else there could be 10 animation networks in one place.

Look on the bright side. At least their kids channel still has a distinct look resembling OTL!Nick.
Right, probably because many of the people who worked at Nick in their earlier years IOTL is still there.
Thank you. After all, we'd probably have enough of the kids cable network owned by major studios.
More than enough.
That could work. But that's why I asked if some of those later ones were spinoff channels a la Boomerang or Toon Disney, because I wasn't sure how else there could be 10 animation networks in one place.
Oh....................
I drew it myself. : P
Impressive.

I wonder what the logos for the rest of the major kids networks.

The UK stuff is completely different, but stuff like Dennis and Gnasher and Tracy Beaker does find it's way Stateside, but it'll be on cable. Most likely Pinball.

Well, you're more than welcome to make a Saturday Morning schedule for a UK network. I'd be fine with the international variety.

Of the veterans, I'm glad Gex, Super Commandos, and the Archie superheroes get to stay.

As for the new shows, the biggest surprise to me is involving Nelvana with Cybersix. Given what the year 2000 brought for that studio IOTL, I hope this translates to the show getting an additional season or two.
CBS(YAY!) - CBS Corporation
7:00: Maggie and the Ferocious Beast - (Nelvana)

11:30: Blaster's Universe - (Nelvana)
12:00: Redwall - (Nelvana)
12:30: Rescue Heroes - (Nelvana)
That's a lot of new shows. But I'd argue that Sledgehammer O'Possum is the most expendable of the three veteran shows from last season.

As for said newcomers, this is more or less exactly why I hoped Nelvana's involvement with Cybersix translates to a second season. And yet, seeing the Adelaide name become an anime dubbing studio makes me wonder what could come after Cardcaptor Sakura.
NBC(Kids' WB!) - TimeWarner
8:00: The Slappy Squirrel Show - (Amblin Entertainment; Warner Bros. Television Animation)
8:30: Pac-Man World - (Namco; Warner Bros. Television Animation)

11:30: Robo-Borg - (Toei; Warner Bros. Television)
12:00: Crashbox - (Cuppa Coffee Animation; HBO)
12:30: A Little Curious - (Curious Pictures)
Does this mean Slappy Squirrel gets a third season? If so, I'm glad the Animaniacs universe ends with one final lap for one of its greatest characters.

But Pac-Man World, Wonder Woman, and Robo-Borg are also great shows to keep on the block.

The new shows, though? Static Shock and The Zeta Project prop up Wonder Woman immensely, The Iron Giant could technically be a new Superman adaptation by way of the movie itself, Centipede is the most expendable newcomer but still comes with its merits, and capping off the block with HBO Family's anchors for the E/I hour at the end just bookends the whole thing.

12:30: So Weird - (Fair Dinkum Productions; Disney Television)
X-Men: Evolution and the newest Ultraman series are the only new shows this season? Fascinating.

And yet, I wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe The Book of Pooh can replace Mopatop's Shop, something else can air at 12:30, and either Spider-Man or The Avengers could be bumped off in 2001. But the rest should stick around for next year.

This is nice. Franklin, Woody Woodpecker, Crash, Digimon, and Big Guy & Rusty are exactly the kinds of stuff I'd want to see stick around. And I guess Angela Anaconda can be endured to get to the better stuff.

I think Little Bill could run for longer than Maisy would in the educational hour. A Spyro cartoon was nearly inevitable, and so is its timeslot. And both Dinozaurs and Golden Quest of the Braves makes it a 150-minute Sega lineup to die for.
FOX(Fox Kids) - 20th Century Fox
8:00: Rugrats - (Klasky-Csupo; Fox Television Animation)
8:30: The Wild Thornberrys - (Klasky-Csupo; Fox Television Animation)
9:00: Phineas and Ferb - (Fox Television Animation)
9:30: Zoomates! - (Fuzzy Door Productions; Fox Television Animation)
10:00: Yu-Gi-Oh! - (Toei Animation; Saban Entertainment)
10:30: Mina and the Count - (Frederator Studios; Fox Television Animation)
11:00: The Fairly OddParents - (Frederator Studios; Fox Television Animation)
11:30: Rocket Power - (Klasky-Csupo; Fox Television Animation)

Thoughts?
This is nice. The only new show this year is Yu-Gi-Oh!, and all the veteran shows have some reason to stay on the block. Yes, even Zoomates.

Of the veterans, I'm glad Gex, Super Commandos, and the Archie superheroes get to stay.
Yep.
As for the new shows, the biggest surprise to me is involving Nelvana with Cybersix. Given what the year 2000 brought for that studio IOTL, I hope this translates to the show getting an additional season or two.
Oh crap. I only thought Cybersix was a Nelvana co-pro because it was the only REAL anime to ever air on Teletoon other than some random anime films and OVAs(those ran at launch) almost every night for years. Turns out it's NOT a Nelvana co-pro.
That's a lot of new shows. But I'd argue that Sledgehammer O'Possum is the most expendable of the three veteran shows from last season.
Right. In fact, expect it gone next year.
As for said newcomers, this is more or less exactly why I hoped Nelvana's involvement with Cybersix translates to a second season. And yet, seeing the Adelaide name become an anime dubbing studio makes me wonder what could come after Cardcaptor Sakura.
RIght.
Does this mean Slappy Squirrel gets a third season? If so, I'm glad the Animaniacs universe ends with one final lap for one of its greatest characters.
Yes. Yes it does.
But Pac-Man World, Wonder Woman, and Robo-Borg are also great shows to keep on the block.
Right, but this is Robo-Borg's last season.

X-Men: Evolution and the newest Ultraman series are the only new shows this season? Fascinating.
Right.
And yet, I wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe The Book of Pooh can replace Mopatop's Shop,
Well, Mopatop does have a lot of episodes.
something else can air at 12:30,
I'm gonna try to find something.
and either Spider-Man or The Avengers could be bumped off in 2001.
Both are being bumped off.
But the rest should stick around for next year.
Most of the rest will.
This is nice. Franklin, Woody Woodpecker, Crash, Digimon, and Big Guy & Rusty are exactly the kinds of stuff I'd want to see stick around. And I guess Angela Anaconda can be endured to get to the better stuff.

It's okay, they could distribute it in the US.
Right. In fact, expect it gone next year.
Thank you.
Yes. Yes it does.
Just what I wanted to hear.
Right, but this is Robo-Borg's last season.
Not surprised.
Well, Mopatop does have a lot of episodes.
It can move to Turnerama's preschool block, whatever that channel or block is called ITTL, as an exclusive show for the rest of its run.
I'm gonna try to find something.
Okay.
Both are being bumped off.
Not surprised. In that case, perhaps Mopatop's Shop can find a slot next year after all.
Most of the rest will.
Okay.

Okay. Let's see what it's like for now.
American Broadcasting Company (Cartoon Network on ABC/Cartoonior on ABC/Toonami on ABC):
7:00 -
Schoolhouse Rock! (J. J. Sedelmaier Productions)
7:30 - Thomas & Friends (HiT Entertainment)
8:00 - PB&J Otter (Hanna-Barbera, Jumbo Pictures)
8:30 - Postman Pat (HiT Entertainment)
9:00 - Doug (Hanna-Barbera, Jumbo Pictures)

10:30 - The Powerpuff Girls (Hanna-Barbera)
11:00 - Sailor Moon (Toei Animation, DiC Media)
11:30 - Super Sonic Sisters (Hanna-Barbera)
12:00 - Anpanman (TMS Entertainment, DiC Media)
12:30 - Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Hanna-Barbera)
Now this is an even split. My personal favorite new show here is an Alex Kidd cartoon by Hanna-Barbera. From my perspective, that is a juxtaposition beyond comparison.
National Broadcasting Company (Nothin’ But Cool):
7:00 -
Caillou (CINAR)
7:30 - Animal Crackers (CINAR)
8:00 - Mona the Vampire (CINAR)
8:30 - Rolie Polie Olie (Nelvana, Sparx Animation Studios)
9:00 - Franklin (Nelvana)

10:00 - Invasion U.S.A. (United Artists Animation)
10:30 - RoboCop: Low Life Streets (United Artists Animation)
11:00 - The Supernaturals (United Artists Animation)
11:30 - The Pink Panther (United Artists Animation)
12:00 - All Dogs Go To Heaven: The Series (United Artists Animation)
12:30 - NIMH: The Secrets Live On (United Artists Animation)
My one question for this lineup is: What is The Supernaturals about?
Columbia Broadcasting System (Eyecandy):
7:00 -
Umptee-3 (Screen Gems, Columbia-Tristar Television)
7:30 - Bad Dog (CinéGroupe, Saban Entertainment)
8:00 - Men in Black: The Series (Screen Gems, Columbia-Tristar Television)
8:30 - Jumanji (Screen Gems, Columbia-Tristar Television)
9:00 - Beast Wars: Transformers (Mainframe Entertainment)
9:30 - Reboot (Mainframe Entertainment)
10:00 - GeGeGe no Kitarō (Toei Animation, Funimation)
10:30 - Yume no Crayon Oukoku (Toei Animation, Funimation)
11:00 - Dragon Ball Z (Toei Animation, Funimation)
11:30 - Dragon Ball Z (Toei Animation, Funimation)
12:00 - Gran Turismo: The Series (Screen Gems, Columbia-Tristar Television) (live action)
12:30 - Oggy and the Cockroaches (Gaumont Multimedia)
The lineup looks solid. Although the back half does surprise me with Kitaro, a live-action Gran Turismo SatAM series, and Yume no Crayon Oukoku in it.
Warner Fox Network (KidxBox):
7:00 -
Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies (Leon Schlesinger Productions/Warner Bros. Cartoons, pre-1948 shorts) (reruns)
7:30 - Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies (Warner Bros. Cartoons, post-1948 shorts) (reruns)

11:00 - Neon Genesis Evangelion (Gainax, 4Kids Entertainment, [REDACTED])
11:30 - Yu-Gi-Oh! (Toei Animation, 4Kids Entertainment)
12:00 - Histeria! (Warner Bros. Animation)
12:30 - The Mr. Potato Head Show (Film Roman)
Dividing between pre and post-1948 for the Looney Tunes hour is a great idea if you ask me.

In spite of its timeslot, I think The Mr. Potato Head Show might be better remembered ITTL.
Buena Vista Broadcasting (One Saturday Morning):
7:00 -
Bear in the Big Blue House (Jim Henson Television)
7:30 - The Lost Upstairs (Jim Henson Television, Children's Television Workshop)
8:00 - Mickey's Wacky World (Walt Disney Television Animation)
8:30 - 101 Dalmatians: The Series (Walt Disney Television Animation)
9:00 - Casper's Weirdest Mysteries (Walt Disney Television Animation)
9:30 - Pepper Ann (Walt Disney Television Animation)
10:00 - The Incredible Hulk (Marvel Animation)
10:30 - Spider-Man: The Animated Series (Marvel Animation)
11:00 - Adventures of the Silver Surfer (Marvel Animation)
11:30 - Captain America (Marvel Animation)
12:00 - A Goofy World (Walt Disney Television Animation)
12:30 - Pocahontas: A New World Journey (Walt Disney Television Animation)
I'd say using the direct-to-video Pocahontas sequel and stretching it out to an episodic TV show sounds about right.
Universal Paramount Network (UPN Kids):
7:00 -
Blue's Clues (Games Animation)
7:30 - Fieval's Great American Stories (Duality Animation)
8:00 - The Land Before Time (Duality Animation)
8:30 - The New Woody Woodpecker Show (Duality Animation)
9:00 - Rugrats (Klasky-Csupo, Games Animation)
9:30 - Hey Arnold! (Snee-Oosh, Games Animation)

10:30 - Hank and the Hustlemen (Spümcø, Games Animation)
11:00 - Zelda: The Animated Series (Nintendo, Duality Animation)
11:30 - Star Fox (Nintendo, Duality Animation)
12:00 - Super Mario Adventures (Nintendo, Duality Animation)
12:30 - Donkey Kong Country (Nintendo, Duality Animation)
That new American Tail series sounds good, and it does make use of the two unexpected sequels.

But I am surprised that both Hank and the Hustlemen and what I can only assume is a cross between Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac air on broadcast television.

It's your call, though. I have no place to judge your choices.
What shows would you guys watch?
For me, it would be:

7:00: Bear in the Big Blue House (BVB) or Blue's Clues (UPN)
7:30: Fievel's Great American Stories (UPN) or Looney Tunes (WFN)
8:00: Mickey's Wacky World (BVB), Animaniacs (WFN), or PB&J Otter (ABC)
8:30: The New Woody Woodpecker Show (UPN) or Rolie Polie Olie (ABC)
9:00: Doug (ABC) or Rugrats (UPN)
9:30: Hey Arnold! (UPN), Power Rangers (WFN), or Pepper Ann (BVB)
10:00: Mina and the Count (ABC)
10:30: The Powerpuff Girls (ABC) or Superman: TAS (WFN)
11:00: Sailor Moon (ABC) or Zelda: TAS (UPN)
11:30: The Pink Panther (NBC), Dragon Ball Z (CBS), or Yu-Gi-Oh! (WFN)
12:00: All Dogs Go to Heaven: The Series (NBC), Histeria! (WFN), A Goofy World (BVB), or Super Mario Adventures (UPN)
12:30: Alex Kidd (ABC), Oggy and the Cockroaches (CBS), or Donkey Kong Country (UPN)

10 AM is the only slot that I'd stick with my first choice on. Nearly everywhere else has two or three options available, and 12 PM has four shows I'd want to watch.

Okay. Let's see what it's like for now.

Now this is an even split. My personal favorite new show here is an Alex Kidd cartoon by Hanna-Barbera. From my perspective, that is a juxtaposition beyond comparison.
Yep.
My one question for this lineup is: What is The Supernaturals about?
It’s a show about a amateur paranormal investigator in school who secretly teams up undercover with a clique of goth kids - who are shocked that their magic spell book is actually capable of magic.
The lineup looks solid. Although the back half does surprise me with Kitaro, a live-action Gran Turismo SatAM series, and Yume no Crayon Oukoku in it.
Gran Turismo: The Series isn’t live action - that was a mistake on my part. It’s an animated series produced by Screen Gems.
Dividing between pre and post-1948 for the Looney Tunes hour is a great idea if you ask me.

In spite of its timeslot, I think The Mr. Potato Head Show might be better remembered ITTL.
And it won’t become lost media.
I'd say using the direct-to-video Pocahontas sequel and stretching it out to an episodic TV show sounds about right.
Disney makes virtually no direct-to-video sequels ITTL. They are generally in a healthier financial situation ITTL’s 1998 rather than OTL’s 1998.

But expect the biggest changes to BVB/Disney Channel to come in 1999…..
That new American Tail series sounds good, and it does make use of the two unexpected sequels.

But I am surprised that both Hank and the Hustlemen and what I can only assume is a cross between Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac air on broadcast television.
They air in daytime slots when older kids are watching. Hank is later removed.

You are correct in that My Cousin Johnny has elements of both Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Invader Zim - but My Cousin Johnny is very different from both of these series combined.
It's your call, though. I have no place to judge your choices.

For me, it would be:

I'd watch that.

Great!

That's a plus.
Disney makes virtually no direct-to-video sequels ITTL. They are generally in a healthier financial situation ITTL’s 1998 rather than OTL’s 1998.
On the plus side, the DTV market isn't muddled with lazy cashgrabs from major studios. Either from Disney, Don Bluth, or Universal.
But expect the biggest changes to BVB/Disney Channel to come in 1999…..
Okay. May I request a Disney Princess anthology series, to air between 7 and 9 AM, sometime before 2002, to repurpose the abandoned concepts that went into Belle's Magical World, Cinderella 2: Dreams Come True, and the Enchanted Tales direct-to-video-line from the late-2000s?

I know it might be a lofty request, but it's better than making a lot of one-season Princess spinoffs.
They air in daytime slots when older kids are watching. Hank is later removed.
That tracks.
You are correct in that My Cousin Johnny has elements of both Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Invader Zim - but My Cousin Johnny is very different from both of these series combined.
Good point, although I would have also guessed that it was different from both of them with the title you chose to combine them with.
Thanks.
