So, how can we make it so that the communist Dhofar Rebellion that occurred in the gulf Arab state of Oman succeeds in toppling the government of the emir, after beating the Omani military and associated British SAS in the time period between the 1960’s and early 70’s?
Assuming Oman does go through a communist revolution, what are the effects on the history of the Middle East, particularly the Arabian peninsula? How would the US respond to such a threat against their interests on the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf? What would be the ideological nature of the Omani regime, and its relationship with South Yemen? Assuming Oman and Yemen don’t emulate the greater Sino-Soviet mutual geopolitical split, could they end up integrating into a single state?

PRObably not a single state with yemen, marxist or not

will likely be a failed marxist state like in africa

most likely will invite some kind of action from Shah who helped quell it in the OTL

maybe provide the soviets with a naval base

They can even sponser support anti-pakistan guerillas in balochistan

Perhaps the POD would be with the 1970 Omani royal coup either failing or never happening at all; for whatever reason, Sultan Said bin Taimur doesn't get overthrown by his much more competent son Qaboos bin Said, who was able to defeat the communist insurgency and enact reforms that have made Oman much more rich and stable to the present day.

Eventually British and Iranian troops withdraw, the Sultanate gets overthrown by a revolutionary communist government, and the new Marxist regime turns Oman into yet another poor and corrupt dictatorship like South Yemen. (Though if Oman gets merged with South Yemen (and then North Yemen too) it would be a very interesting scenario; what would we call this new state, South Arabia or Yeoman?)

Though anyways, Oman probably stays separate from both Yemens for practical reasons. The country probably won't remain communist past the Cold War either. The most likely end result is that much like Yemen, Oman will be reduced to a failed state afflicted with poverty, corruption, political instability, civil wars and insurgencies, Saudi/Iranian proxy wars, and of course jihadist terrorism.
