Wi ww2 occitania puppet state

After France capitulates Hitler decides to declare France conquered and the free state of occitania liberated under german supervision.

The French colonies are more likely to fight on. And this ww2 goes worse for Hitler.

Who would be the likely quislings in this scenario?

And in the aftermath, what are the prospects for occitan regional identity?

The big difference is that there is no pretence of the puppet state being "France ". It might not affect the war, but the regional identity political fallout could be very different.

The things is that there isn't an Occitan identity . Even in 1940 only in some backwater place of the south people were speaking somekind of occitan (we call it the Patois) . They can called it Occitania but that won't change the fact that it is just South France . And well, it's sure that the french colony will fight . Meaning that the war can finish maybe in 44 or even 43 .

I'm not too sure about the lack of occitan identity. It currently has half a million speakers (of 16 million people) down from basically everyone in 1905. The French government has and had a policy of systematic suppression of regional languages similar to but more effective than the UK suppression of Welsh. These days there are plenty of bilingual street signs announcing town names and sometimes street names too. During ww2 there were likely many who would have appreciated legal recognition of the region's identity.
