Borneo falls fairly well in the Portugal sphere of influence that resulted from the Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 so it would open up all potential problems between Spain & Portugal. There is theory here in Australia that Portuguese navigators explored the east coast of Australia but need release the charts because of the Treaty and that there was Caravel shipwrecked in dunes near Port Fairy Victoria known as the Mahogany Ship.
