WI: Slim & Monty change places

So instead of Having Slim in Burma and Monty in Africa->Italy->France we switch them around, Monty is now safely in Burma where he can't annoy that many Americans and the much more amiable and (almost definitely) more competent Slim is now working in the West, how would you expect WW2 to develop?

I was under the impression that Slim was quite a bit further down on the totem pole than Monty. Could he even be given such a prestigious command?

Bad idea - Slim was the right man for the job in that theater because he was an Indian Army officer who understood the local conditions and respected the native troops under his command. Montgomery was a English Army officer and was among those who derided Slim for being an inferior sepoy general.

And who rides herd on Monty in this theater the way Ike ultimately did? Can you imagine Monty having to get along with Stillwell and dealing with the Chinese? What could possibly go wrong in this scenario?

Monty would be fine in the Far East, a slow grind depending on logistics. That's in his wheelhouse.

More interesting on what he orders Vinegar Joe and Orde Wingate to do in theatre.

I first think of Monty and the heavy prep set-piece warfare, but then he did well on-the-fly during the retreat to Dunkirk, but his units were well trained prior to the campaign.

That they were, tho this had to do with those being organized early on and a plan that intended them to be well trained. It was more that a good generals were choosen for the lead divisions & corps of the BEF as mediocrities were not wanted for the best units.

Trivia note: Brooke was Montys commander as corps commander.
