I've seen a few places around the web about Sony having approached Sega after Nintendo struck down the deal on the SNES-CD. Sega of America wanted to work with Sony to develop a new console, but Sega of Japan turned down the idea and Sony went on to develop the Playstation. What if Sega of Japan had agreed with the idea and worked with Sony to develop a new CD based console?

This is a neat concept because the success of the Dreamcast was negligible compared to that of the PlayStation. A Sega PlayStation radically shuffles the home console and even handheld market, because if Sega maintains creative control, I bet the PlayStation brand stagnates and doesn't run up to become one of the biggest producers of handheld consoles in the world (but Sega would probably handle the home console market brilliantly due to Sony's input).
