WI Richard Pryor stars in Blazing Saddles

I'm just watching the film on TV right now, originally Mel Brooks wanted Pryor to play Bart but Warner Bros said no because of concerns over his drug use. But what if Brooks had stuck to his guns (no pun intended ;) ) and Pryor got the part. As good as Cleavon Little was how differently could the film have turned out? Would its impact have been greater than IOTL?

I can't imagine that the final film would be much different; there's very little ad-libbing in Mel Brooks movies, and Cleavon Little certainly gives the impression of a man doing his best Richard Pryor impersonation, no?

The only real direct impact I can see is that Little probably doesn't get the role of Calculus Entropy in Fletch Lives nearly two decades later....
