By "fealty" I mean they're only vassals De Jure, but De Facto independent.
Would it be possible to convince the Mongols to finish off the Seljuk Turks and cede the area to the Nicenes to be ruled in the name of the Mongol Khan?
Obviously any Mongol assistance to the Romans would be limited to nonexistent, especially in the West, but if they agree to cede everything West of the Taurus Mountains to the Romans, then clearly, with the East secured, they'd only have to worry about the West.
If this happened in the 1240s, would this speed up or slow down the Roman reconquest of Constantinople?
