WI John McCain killed during the USS Forrestal fire.

The 1967 USS Forrestal fire was a devastating fire and series of chain-reaction explosions on 29 July 1967 that killed 134 sailors and injured 161 on the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal (CVA-59), after an unusual electrical anomaly discharged a Zuni rocket on the flight deck. Forrestal was engaged in combat operations in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War at the time, and the damage exceeded US$72 million (equivalent to $496 million today) not including damage to aircraft

US Senator, and 2008 presidential candidat, John McCain was one of the soldiers aboard the USS Forestal that day. Even more surprising, it was McCain's plane that was one of the first to explode during the fire, with McCain escaping with seconds to spare.

WI John McCain had died on the USS Forrestal? Not only was he the Republican candidate of 2008, but was the runner up in the 2000 Republican Primaries, and was in the House of Representatives from 1983 to 1987, and has been a senator since 1987. That is thirty years of work in Washington.

Presumably another Arizonan Republican or Republicans take the seats he filled.

For some strange reason, I misread the dates so terribly I imagined it as happening during the 2008 campaign.

Hopefully, someone from Arizona has an idea of a particular Republican who could've taken his place, because otherwise there's really nothing we can tell.
