WI: Brusilov Killed During First World War

Aleksei Brusilov is known for masterminding the successful Brusilov Offensive that crippled the Austro-Hungarian military's capabilities but it proved to be a double edged sword since the Russians lost 1,000,000 troops.

So what if Brusilov actually got himself killed during the Great War? Sometime around 1915-1916? The obvious butterfly would be no Brusilov Offensive, but would the death of Brusilov actually have a negative impact on the Imperial Russian Army leadership? Assuming that Brusilov himself is one of the very good leaders, others might not be able to measure up to him.

Several effects of this could be:

- Austria-Hungary's military capabilities remain intact, meaning that the Italians get an even bigger death toll in Isonzo.

- Serbia might actually be conquered and the Serbian Army that is retreating could end up in PoW camps, making it harder for the Allies to help liberate Serbia. Overall, stronger Central Powers position in the Balkans, plus neutral Romania and Greece.

- Domestic crisis could spiral out of control with a much more impotent Russian leadership that could trigger a revolution prematurely.

- Stalemate or a Central Powers victory that may see Russia lose territories without having enemy soldiers occupy it in the first place.
