WI: An earlier WWI?

Basically, what would the effects of a European-wide war breaking out before 1914? Could one of the many crises of the 1900-1914 era have actually spiraled into a global war? Would the alliances have turned out the same, or could minor powers have fallen into different camps? I could imagine that a war started by Russia's unwillingness to back down (such as in a Balkan War goes hot scenario) might see Britain remain neutral.

Also, how early could a WWI happen? The Albanian crisis of 1912/13 certainly could have escalated if cooler heads in the Russian government hadn't prevailed and Russia had not demobilised the army. However, could an earlier crisis, such as the Bosnian annexation of 1908 or the Agadir crisis of 1911 spiraled out of control?

Any other thoughts?
