WI/AHC: ROI accession to the United Kingdom

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with an ATL (with a POD after the 2nd Irish Constitution comes into force, after the 29th December 1937), where the Republic of Ireland willingly accedes to the British, giving up its independence to become a constituent country of the United Kingdom. Bonus points if your TL doesn't involve the Irish fighting against the British in either of the World Wars.

There is no point after independence that Ireland would willingly accede to rejoining the United Kingdom. Possibly the Commonwealth, but not the United Kingdom, and even than, its quite implausible.

Pretty much this, from 37-70 ish you have those that fought in the War of Independence in leadership roles of the major parties. No matter which tribe you support here's no realistic chance that either of the SF children would make a move during this period.

After that you have the Troubles, certainly not going to happen then, and after that there's no modern political group (yes I know there's Reform but they are little more than a very small non political group) that would support that.

Even if you managed to kill off Dev and his cabinet (hell even the entire Daíl) in WW2 I still don't see a realistic chance.

For Ireland to even contemplate rejoining the UK, the UK needs to be a lot more British, or at least have the English power broken. At which point it isn't the UK.

The only way you could see Ireland and UK integrate together will be as a part of Europe.

A TL where an ideological based country conquers all of mainland Europe (Nazi Germany or a Communist USSR, say), leaving the US and the UK/Empire as the only possible protectors of minor nations might, MIGHT see this. But even rhen Ireland's more likely to choose the US than the UK.
