What If: Italian Allies Defect against Rome

During Hannibal's campaign throughout Italy, the prominent General sought to convince Rome's Italian allies and subjugated states to turn on Rome and provide military aid for Carthage during the Second Punic War. Although no major revolts occurred amongst Rome's allies and subjects, what do you think the outcome would have been if Rome had lost it's valuable Italian allies (that she relied on for troops and supplies) who in turn declared war on Rome in alliance with Carthage?

Please give details.

If enough of them defect, than the Carthaginians can win. But what can Carthage offer them that they didn't actually try?

So like if the Social War happened in tandem with the 2nd Punic War?:cool:

If this happened, Hannibal might not even need to invade Italy. Rome is screwed. This would also be an excellent example of soft-warfare. If the Roman Republic is toppled in favor of a pan-Italian federation allied to Carthage.... it sounds strangely modern

He did win over Syracuse and much of southern Italy. I'm not sure how he could win over more than he didn't historically.
