Had Ludendorff been unavailable to send to East Prussia (wounded at Liege?) is there any possibility that Prittwitz would simply have been told to turn over command to von Mackensen?
If so is the course of the battle likely to be any different under him? And is anything changed later if a "Mackensen Legend" replaces the Hindenburg one?
