The Republic of Louisiana (a Joe Steele tl)

The beginning
November 29th, 1934: Charles A. Waterford attempts to assassinate Senator Huey Long as he gives a speech in Alexandria, Louisiana. The bullet misses the Kingfish's head by three inches and Long was immediately tackled by his bodyguards and moved to safety. Immediately the Louisiana State Police went after the almost assassin but could not capture him alive as he committed suicide by taking a cyanide pill. Rumors begin spreading that the attempted assassination was a hit by Joe Steele.
November 30th, 1934: An investigation is launched into the cause of this attempted assassination. Huey Long delivers a radio address from an undisclosed location sometimes referred to as "The Kingfish's Nest." He rallies the population and many Louisianans join the National Guard and State Police. The Louisiana National Guard secures the states borders as Joe Steele orders the US Army to move to the borders of Louisiana.
December 1st, 1934: Long gives a second address, telling his listeners about Waterford. Waterford had been a disgruntled WW1 Infantryman who had hated Long. Huey Long stated that incriminating evidence was found that said that Waterford had been tasked by an unknown person in Washington to kill Huey Long. Long reiterated his beliefs that "We seceded due to Yankee aggression before and we can do it again. Soon after this Joe Steele ordered the Army to capture Long by any means to try him in a military tribunal.
December 2nd, 1934: Pro Longists in Louisiana form militia groups collectively known as Long's Militia.
December 5th, 1934: US Army officers demand the Louisiana National Guard disband and leave their positions at a border crossing in Orange, Louisiana. The Louisianans refuse and a small skirmish breaks out. 3 Americans are killed, 4 wounded, while 2 Louisianans are killed and 6 are wounded.

So I'm starting a new timeline set in the Joe Steele Universe!

This is cool. I enjoyed the Joe Steele novel, and I'm glad to see a timeline based on it.
