"The Rebels" (WI: female Beatles)

Inspired by an earlier thread, which I've temporarily mislayed.

Let's say that John, Paul, George and Ringo were all born female.

Mary Julia Lennon
- b. 1940, to Alfred and Julia Lennon.
- her father was a member of the merchant navy, who went AWOL in 1943.
- her mother became pregnant by another man (one 'Taffy' Williams) in late 1944, giving birth to baby Victoria in mid-1945. In this timeline, Victoria was never given up for adoption.
- in July 1946, Alfred visited Julia and Mimi (her sister), to take Mary to Blackpool for a long 'holiday' – actually emigrating to New Zealand.

In the 1960s, the young Mary Lennon becomes, for want of a better analogy, the NZ equivalent of Cilla Black.

Theresa “Tess” McCartney
- b. 1942, to Jim and Mary McCartney.
- baptised RC
- passed the 11-plus in 1953, and went on to attend the Liverpool Institute High School for Girls, where she met Sarah Harrison (OTL George).
- her mother, Mary, died in 1956. After her, death, Jim started taking Tess to local brass band concerts, and bought her a nickel-plated trumpet. He encouraged her to take music lessons, and Tess displayed a real talent for the trumpet.

Sarah Harrison
- b. 1943, to Harold and Louise Harrison
- passed the 11-plus in 1954, and went on to attend the Liverpool Institue, where she formed a close friendship with Tess McCartney.
- played guitar with her brother, Peter, in a skiffle band called 'the Rebels' from 1957.

Rachel Starkey
- b. 1940
- falls victim to tuberculosis in the mid-50s.

- - - - -

So, we're left with 'the Rebels' -

Their first line-up (1957-59) includes Sarah Harrison, her brother Pete, his friend Arthur Kelly, and an ever-changing line-up of drummers and supporting hangers on (including, from 1958, Tess McCartney).

Then, playing the Casbah club shortly after its opening in 1959, the Harrisons meet Pete Best, who they take on as their drummer. Arthur goes on to pastures new (having never really been that committed a musician), and Tess becomes the group's lead vocalist and front(wo)man.

So, we have a line-up thus -

- Tess McCartney (lead vocals)
- Pete Harrison (lead guitar)
- Sarah Harrison (guitar, vocals)
- Pete Best (drummer)

Thoughts?
