The North wins in '61

I've noticed that the majority of Civil War threads have to do with the South winning. So WI the North wins.... earlier? Say, after First Bull Run? There is no Emancipation Proclamation, no Gettysburg, no Gettysburg Address, no Lincoln Assassination, no Reconstruction, etc. What does this mean for the country? And do we remain an "are" or become an "is"?

Sorry to gloss over most of your post, but what does this mean?

presumably the idea that at some point the form of adress was something like "The Unites States are [doing X]" as opposed to "the United States is doing X"

anyway, you'd probably see slavery hang around a while longer, but it was pretty much going to die by the end of the century at the latest due to simple economics. might see some more radicalized politics without any sort of reconstruction (although I think something like Lincoln's original plan is likely anyway)

Prior to the Civil War, it was common to say "The United States of America are". Afterward, it became "The United States of America is", implying that the country became one nation and not a collection of states.
