The flat earth

Let's say that the earth was shaped as a coin. How would human civilization evolve on a "planet" consisting of Europe, Africa and the middle east only? With Greenland as a last stop to the west, and the Urals as a border to certain death to the east, there certainly will be no mongols, no far streaching empire of Alexander the great etc. etc. Will the speed of technological advances increase or would we stop advancing by the time we reach...let's say medival times? Any thoughts?

Thats ok, you'll have to ask Ian, resident moderator/administrator, meaning he has absolute power here and all plots against him are quickly and easily foiled no matter how elaborate or hare brained.
