Ocracoke Island,22 November 1718
The dawn of the discovery era gave birth for more opportunities, legitimate or not. Many decides to become colonists,a sailor,a trader,or anything they want. And many eventually steered off for the underworld path, choosing to become a robber, smuggler,or just like everyone else,a pirate.Piracy have become the colonial powers's greatest problem, given the fact that the colonial powers's commerce and trade operations is basically disrupted in a whole new level, depending on the scourge they met in the seas. Many made their name-all out by piracy, these names, mainly Charles Vane,Stede Bonnet,Bartholomew Roberts,Jack Rackham,George Washington, and more. But only one name stands out from the rest.King of the seas, the man that could send shivers, more legendary than Davy Jones's himself.
His name is Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch
Father of piracy, lord of the seas,Blackbeard gave birth to the short-lived pirate republic of Nassau,as a safe haven for pirates, and everyone who wants to escape the hell-in form of the colonial governments strewn around the lands of the new world, set up by various colonial powers of the old world. This attracted the governor of Bahamas,Woodes Rogers,to declare war against the pirates, attracting the formerly-pirate Benjamin Hornigold into his fray. This, eventually, alerted the Nassauian pirates that-they must do something,or they can't sail the seas anymore, ending their adventures.Small banters and infightings consumed the pirates of Nassau, effectively stalling any chances of a solid, unified concensus regarding the matter-to be made.Blackbeard,in the other side,is tending his own business in North Carolina-but something will sent Blackbeard back to the place where he belong.
Having his ship getting boarded by some of the king's men, namely Lieutenant Robert Maynard's group,Blackbeard faced life and death in front of his eyes, with Robert Maynard delivering blows towards him, that Blackbeard easily fend off. With only a second to spare, both men pulled out their flintlocks, aimed at each other,and...
The moment of truth.
Bang.
There,Maynard's aims proved to be extremely misdirected, with the bullet,in a twisted sense of irony hit one of his own men, while Blackbeard's bullet pierced Maynard's head, making its way of entry-right beetween his eyes, instantly killing him.But Blackbeard shouldn't rest easy yet,he could see that his forces are taking heavy losses, making a pyrrhic victory is the best thing he could achieve right now-but Maynard's death eventually tilts the balance of morale. There,Blackbeard's men attacked the invading forces in sheer state of frenzy, making them more akin into demons rather than humans, taking down enemies one by one, with one man reportedly able to took dozens of lives. There,in the end,Blackbeard won, leaving no survivors behind.Only corpses, abandoned ships, and loots.
Taking Maynard's head as a trophy,Blackbeard stayed at Ocracoke for a day,to repair the ship, and loading the loots.Still considerably shaken,Blackbeard decided to bury the dead in the sea, believing that their home is in the seas-but now,he's a man bound for revenge, against Britain.Realizing that he still have a family back in Nassau,Blackbeard,in 24 November 1718 departs for Nassau.News of Maynard's death is still not heard, due to the fact that Blackbeard struggled to hide the fact, fearing that it may attract the British authorities-whom definitely hellbent on taking Blackbeard down,if things goes against his plan.About a week later,31 November-or 1 December 1718,at full knot,Blackbeard managed to arrive at Nassau safely, where he could see that-his friends are waiting for him,as he could see their ships docked.Docking his ship,Blackbeard immidately reconciled with his friends, without Hornigold, his old friend-that he expected to see.
There,Charles Vane reported that Woodes Rogers is coming with a fleet-to blockade Nassau, within two weeks,in order to persuade the pirates.A man of his tricks,Blackbeard knew exactly the thing that they should do,as his fears is ultimately becoming true.
Only having two weeks,Blackbeard realized that the new world is not a safe haven anymore, and by a sheer twist of fate,Blackbeard knew where the ultimate safe haven actually rest.Hearing words of a land where the British Empire haven't enroached themselves fully yet,it was a race against time to neutralize the chance of having them fully becoming strong, and obiviously it was a race against time to escape Nassau, with any means possible. With his ultimate plan laid out,Blackbeard is ready to finish the game with the British Empire.Fueled by revenge. And his love for his new family in Nassau.
As Taken from the diaries of "Calico" Jack Rackham:
"Edward plans to save us from the British, claiming that the king is hellbent on killing us.True to his words,Edward's word is the best voice of reason that we have.He planned to raise our numbers, get a ship for the commoners, and wait for that bastard Rogers,to come and see the fireworks.I love it."
