A question on this synagogue, the domes on the towers look somewhat of a mix between Islamic and Russian.Was/is that usual in Western Europe?
Yes, that's Moorish Revival architecture. This thing here was built in the 1870s and quite many synagogues and other buildings have been built in this pseudo-Islamic style.
