Wow, now that's a convoluted system. And I'm a fan of those! But this one really takes the cake. Also seems a little ominous that President Mojica will be coming in with few members of her party in the Chamber of Deputies and Senate...

What is the great eagle movement?

The Great Eagle Movement is a populist movement that mixes policies of "Regeneration" (the believe Mexico needs to be changed fundamentally to improve it from it's perceived poor condition) and Populism (think the Italian 5 Star Movement). Generally classified as right-wing.

Wow... Mexico, taking America's electoral college and ramping up the confusion to an 11. I have seen convoluted electoral processes, but this one really takes the cake.

It's not pretty!

Aww thanks! It is rather grim for cohesive governance in Mexico at the time...

How did Mexico introduce the electoral college by means of updated constitution which enacts or establish the electoral college?

Mexico has had an electoral college, copied from the Americans, since the country's first constitution. Though it was found to be unworkable several times over, reforms were gradually added over the years, most often when a revolution or civil war took place within the country. The current system was implemented in the 1940s after the Revolutionary Council, which governed Mexico since the 1890s, was overthrown by uprisings, demonstrations, and assassinations.

@Kanan If you revisit Southeast Asia at some point, would it be possible to get more information on Sarawak? The country as a historical oddity IOTL has always fascinated, so I've wondered what you've added with them surviving as an independent state (British protectorate?)! No rush, no pressure, just curiosity from a huge fan of your work! <3

And what about my country (the Philippines)?

Bye bye Zille, you’ll be missed

What are the pre election tensions in China about?

Lmao the situation in Libia, so I guess that Italy was forced to give it indépendance. How popular is the idea of union (connessione? , collegamento?) among Italians?

I do wonder as to the nature of the Italian Prime Minister's objection. Does it stem from principle or a rejection of the expense of paying for the process of unification?

I am certainly curious as to the popularity of unification among non-Italo-Libians, and whether or not support for the notion extends beyond the settler-descended portion of the populace.

I do think the 2020 election ITTL (and the United States ITTL overall) is one of the most interesting aspects of this TL overall, so I’m happy to get more information on the primaries this far! I do hope Hillary Clinton doesn’t win the nomination though, moderate candidates just aren’t interesting for TLs IMO and Hillary winning the nomination is especially cliched, although Trump endorsing Hillary is pretty funny. A Clinton/Trump ticket would be hilarious.

Also, what are the platforms of the 2020 candidates, especially Social Labor candidates? I mean, what kind of socialist is Lopez?

Speaking of socialism, how does workplace democracy fare in the 2020 race thus far? Is it a bigger issue than OTL or is it more pronounced among candidates?

:closedtongue:

The pre-election tensions are over surprise changes to voting regulations and intimidation be some political parties against supporters of rival parties.

The Socialist-Communist-Left Liberal coalition government of the 1990s granted Libia independence despite the population voting for pro-integration policies. Overall, it was hated by Italy that the country was made independent (and a government placed in the minority Arabs), but now that Libia has languished from lack of investment, civil unrest, and strife, Italians do not want to take the territory back and pay to bring it back up to standards.

It's a mixture of both. The centre-left Government under Prime Minister Sergio Cofferati rejects the notion that Libia should be Italian, and the costs will be substantial to re-integrate them into the national economy.

I don't understand who Clinton's main opponent is, Michael Moore or Hector Lopez? And if Moore is polling at 20%, where is Lopez polling?

The media narrative prior to the election getting underway was that López would be Clinton's main opponent, and the consensus is that still is the case! However, it's clear that Michael Moore is polling far above him, but most people are not taking his candidacy very seriously.

I'm glad! I plan on covering the primaries pretty well as the year progresses/2020 begins.

I'll cover their platforms closer to the first primaries. Stay tuned! I want to get it right and not just jot done some bullet points here :coldsweat:

Workplace democracy is just considered a standard part of most union jobs. There's no one seriously contemplating revoking it.

How is that happening? Did Italy manage to fully settle Libya?

Libia was an integral part of Italy until the 1990s.

Point of personal privilege: can I petition to live ITTL? I'd be in New England but watching a sane 2020 race take place.

Stellar work as always, @Kanan. You've really got the BBC voice down in your articles!
