Ottoman Caliphate Cairo Exile possibility

With the intermarrying of the Ottoman and Mohammed Ali dynasties, and the choice of Cairo for exile of many Ottomans the legacy of Ottoman Turkish as a court language in Royal Egypt, what do you feel are the possibilities of a separated Caliphate being established by Abdulmajeed II in Cairo in an Egypt under the secular rule of the Mohammed Ali kings/sultans?

A similar condominium existed during the Ayubideen dynasty of Saladdin who's descendants remained secular sultans while there was a nominal Abbasid caliph.

The existence of a historical pretext is interesting. Egypt is a major country in the Middle-East, and they host some of the most esteemed Islamic centers of scholarship as well. It would certainly be preferable to current situation, and could even rein most extreme militant factions somewhat - if that is what the controller of Caliphate wishes.

It is an interesting question, I am not sure the British would let it happen though, was not their boy in Arabia already calling himself Caliph at the time?

Long term if it happened, I wonder what its affects would be post-Second World War. Would Nasser get rid of them?
