Of Reds and Romans: Discussion thread

Based on this: https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showpost.php?p=5126498&postcount=26 and running with the list of reasons given by wormyguy's link on how the Communists and Capitalists destroyed the Roman Empire.

The Romans are the capitalists, who are destroyed by the evil communists. Or maybe they're the evil capitalists who are overthrown by the glorious people's revolution which happens to mean the Germanic peoples who overran the WRE.

Either way. This idea is purely for entertainment and is not intended to be plausible alt history - in fact, the idea is to have this be the history referred to by a member on an alt-AH.com as part of an argument that implausible things happen in history so that them happening in alt-timelines is okay.

Needless to say, a sense of humor is necessary to appreciate the shameless parodying involved in this.

Is anyone interested in taking part? Should this thread be moved elsewhere?

Honestly, looking at his link, it seemed that that's just a list of everything everyone's blamed for the Fall of the Roman Empire.

I mean many of those really contradict themselves.

What has been hammered out so far? For some reason, my first reaction to the list is "attempt to take over germany, empire falls into civil war from overstreach, a echt-Bismarck sneaks in and starts a new dynasty that degenerates due to excessive pederasty and whatever cultural failings we want to poke at, and then time-travelling Rosa Luxembourg takes over, only to bolshevize* everything until it's Soviet Byzantium(have a hammer and sickle in the apse of Hagia Sophia/the main building of whatever city is the main center for extra anviliciousness).
Nah, too plausible.
*seeing as this is a parody

Well, at the moment, we have the idea that Theodoric the Great is a Tito-like figure. And somehow Odoacer is a Bolshevik, I think.

Its not so much meant as an alternate history properly speaking as parodying Why Rome Fell theories.

I will be the Secretary-General of ERCP and Leader of the Great UERSSR!!!! (ERCP=Eastern Roman Communist Party and UERSSR=United Eastern Roman Soviet Socialists Republics)

Well he "Purged" the nobility... Especially Bardas Phokas, Bardas Skleros and Kalokyros Delfinas.... :D:D:D

EDIT: Oh and we will need a Czar and a Rasputin also...

Exactly. I was thinking of Basil I, not Basil II, but now that you mention it...Basil II would be a great Stalin expy (for want of a better term). :D

I for some reason am finding the idea of making the TL near incoherant such as having the Germanic Peoples being Communist, but having the Byzantine Empire also being Communist and Theo being a Tito-Capitalist quiet fun but hard to plan.

Well we could set it up in 10th century and start the TL from Constantine Doukas's coup against Constantine VII... Only we make Constantine Doukas a Lenin-like figure... :D:D:D

I thought that this suited best... Constantine Doukas=Lenin, Patriarch Nicholas I=Rasputin, Constantine VII=Czar Nicholas II, Zoe Carbonopsina=Czarina, Czar Symeon I= Kaizer etc. :D:D:D

Edit: And Admiral Himerius as Cornilov...
