No Treaty of Picquigny

King Edward IV of England was eager to revive his claim to the French throne.
In 1475 he headed for France with a large army.
King Louis XI avoided a fight by buying Edward.
The Treaty of Picquigny guaranteed Edward an immediate 75,000 gold crowns and an annuity of 50,000 gold crowns if he returned to England in peace. Edward IV accepted.
Suppose there was no Treaty of Picquigny.

Well. Edward IV is quite easily beaten since he can't have the support of Charles the bals of Burgundy who is fully committed to his ambitions in Lorraine and his war against the swiss confederates.

And Edward does not get his subsidy either.

It is quite easy to determine what is a good and necessary agreement : when the 2 parties conclude it so quickly because they realize that there is no advantage in not striking the deal and so many advantages in striking this deal.
