WI Sophia, Electress of Hanover died without issue?? Who would be the next Protestant descendant of James in line for the throne??
The best bet seems to be the children of Sophia's brother Charles Louis. The only trouble there is that Charles was somewhat equivocal in his support of his English relatives during the civil war.
From his first marriage one son died childless, his daughter married a Catholic and the second son died when a child. His second marriage was a bit dodgy as it appears he wasn't properly divorced when it took place.
Of the children from his second marriage only only one Caroline Elisabeth had children who were alive in 1701
