New England Goes Its Own Way

Been debating yet another independent New England TL. Here is the gist of it.

Howe moves faster and takes Philadelphia in 1777, with some smaller units ranging ahead. While Congress of course flees, a few of them are captured and the Congress is mostly broken up as people disperse. One of the few captured/killed in John Adams. This better success alters the British plan for the next year and more forces are routed to new England, notably Tarleton's British legion.

As the dark winter of 1777 takes hold (Washington in Valley Forge and Tarleton landing in New England), a number of New Englanders gather in Boston to lead the Northern War. By chance it tends to be a very radical group. Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Thomas Paine (refugee from Philadelphia) and some others. During the next year Tartleton's brutal campaign radicalizes the war in the North, and the Boston group gather more and more power to counteract British forces. Patriot Boys and Sons of Liberty abound, as New England goes more 'Jacobin'.

Long story short, by the time Washington wins, New England is a very different place. So different, they declare their own separate Republic.

And then follow that new nation.

Any thoughts?
