After the 1490s and the appearance of advanced clockwork technology, technology had started advancing at a far faster rate with ever more complicated clockwork designs, with rapid firing weaponry and massive cannons, and the early clockwork aircruisers and land-battlestations. Yet the technological field changed with the application of steam to clockwork, that especially gave a tremendous boost to the aircruisers and land-battlestations. Unfortunately for Europe, the revolution had gotten underway in Prussia, under the ambitious King Friedrich III.
His Iron Legions exploited the war between Britain and France and Russia's fight with Scandinavia (which he had, in fact, manipulated) to smash into Poland-Lithuania. Poland, however, was but a testing ground for his bid to unite all of Germany under one banner, and perhaps even more. His land-battlestations were far suoperior to his foes, and he smashed them mercilessly. With Prusia's economy doing badly because of his spending on the military, he was forced to extensively pillage all he conquered, and since his Legions couldn't garrisson his expanding empire, he went with the Mongol style of conquest, destroying large amounts of cities and turning the populace of these areas into slaves.
France and Britain, however, saw what was coming and made a truce. Friedrich immediately attempted to punch them out of the war while his Legions were busy in western Germany and Austria. It was here that he unleashed his vast aircruiser forces, bombing swathes of cities that were far from the frontlines. However, the extensive resources of launching an invasion of England brought his Legions down in the West. To the East, the Ottoman Empire rushed in to save the Hapsburgs along with their allies in North Italy. Russia discovered the evidence of Friedrich's manipulations and declared war. While his aircruisers did a good job in bombing his new eastern enemies, his Scandinavian campaign fell through and he had little to spare on Russia. He then decided to make a sperate peace with all these powers, giving parts of Poland to Russia and withdrawing to the Rhine on the West. Now, Friedrich works to end his diplomatic isolation in Europe, and in the meantime builds up his Legions. The situation in Europe is tense.
