Plausibility check:
Is this TL realistic ?

December 1955, Boycott of Montgomery bus turned into riots and street fighting
And lead Jim Crow segregation still around in TTL 2000???
If it would have lead to riots as is described in the article they would more than likely have created more sympathy for the cause of civil rights in the North and more than likely have expedited the passing of civil rights laws not pushed it back. Think for instance the sympathy caused after the horrific treatment of those protesting during the Birmingham riot of 1963.

Some of you guys may have seen my Second American Republic infoboxes, if not I'll explain the lore.

The Civil War goes worse for the North, and in 1864, a peace Democrat defeats Lincoln for re-election. Ultimately, the North radicalises, Lincoln wins a second non-consecutive term, and a new constitutional order is established, the Second American Republic becomes a one-party proto-social-democratic state under the Republicans.

I had originally intended on exploring foreign policy but abandoned this out of laziness, but my plan was originally as follows.

Georges Boulanger takesover in France, and mounts a crushing military victory over Germany, though Britain entering the war late on the side of the Germans limits French territorial gains to the Rhineland, with, ironically, a Treaty of Versailles imposing harsh reparations on Germany. Meanwhile, an earlier Russian revolution leads the Tsardom to collapse, though the resultant civil war would be won by reactionary elements of the Whites.

In the decade that follows, Germany succumbs to internal political pressures, culminating in a much earlier German socialist revolution proclaiming a republic, the German imperial house is exiled to modern day Namibia (a la a Taiwan style situation), with the new socialist Germany recognising the independence of all its colonies.

This breaks out into a war in the early 1900s between a fascist axis led by France and Russia joined by Austria-Hungary and the Ottomans, with socialist Germany and social democratic America joined by a motley crew of allies not necessarily in sympathy with the German socialists but aiming to contain the fascist powers.

How balanced is this conflict?

Red Germany and its allies stand no chance on the continent, at least.

May I please ask if somebody could advise me on what sort of rank and decorations a US Army
Man (West Point graduate) might expect to have if he started his career in Vietnam, moved on to Laos & Cambodia, then served as a military advisor in South America, Afghanistan and Thailand, with his last operation in command of troops before retirement occurring during the Invasion of Grenada?

Also, may I ask if it’a likely this career track strongly suggests a Special Forces/Green Beret officer in particular? (This question and the career arc mentioned above is based on a character for a Modern Day setting and I’m trying to work out how to make this career track as convincing as possible).

Thank You in advance for your consideration!

What if the Blue LED was never invented? Without the vital third part of RGB, LEDs would be useless save for watches and dashboards. But how would this change the flow of Modern Electronic technology?

What if, starting in 1973, the leading western nations -- the US in particular -- took a hardline stance against the white dominated regimes in the southern third of Africa (so against Apartheid South Africa, but also Rhodesia and the Portuguese colonies)? As far as I can tell, this board hasn’t really discussed this kind of scenario before, the well known ongoing TL by @Yes notwithstanding.

First, how would this affect the shorter term (1970’s) development of the subsequent region? Would the aftermath of the Carnation Revolution play out differently? What about the Rhodesian Bush War? Is it likely that Apartheid in South Africa falls earlier than OTL?

If so, could alternative forces in the anti-apartheid to the ANC -- like the Color Consciousness Movement, Steve Biko, etc -- have more influence than OTL? And what are the wider term effects of “post-white rule” for the region?

Thanks.

The shorter term development from the pod on the region (1970s) would result in Apartheid, the Rhodesian Bush War and the Portuguese Colonial War ended earlier in the 1970s than otl and the Carnation Revolution being ended. Alternative African forces to otl such as Steve Biko, PAC and the Inkatha Freedom Party might not have more influence than otl for Apartheid and post-Apartheid/ white rule in South Africa due to the dominance of the ANC post-Apartheid and in resistance to Apartheid.

I bet you are here after watching that youtube video that was trending a few days ago

What if Nixon never taped his office? Would he have survived Watergate, or would that not have made as much of a difference? IIRC the Nixon Tapes were the smoking gun?

The evidence was so key and damming in our timeline I will say without it the investigation is likely sucnificantly slowed down possibly by a year or too a few months but I think there would still be enough evidence with out it to build a strong case for impeachment.

How long can you plausibly keep the WASP "Eastern Establishment" dominant in elite American society with a post-1900 POD? Connected--how much longer can you keep "white ethnic" identity stronger as opposed to assimilating as rapidly as it did outside certain urban pockets?

I tend to agree with @Fehérvári , with both France, Austria-Hungary, and Russia against it the fall of Red Germany seems inevitable to me.
Maybe have Britain also join the allies after the war breaks out because they dislike France and Russia and do not want to risk them becoming more powerful, and have Russia balkanise in its civil war?
Assuming the German Republic only needs to fight France and Austria-Hungary because Russia is too busy fighting a Polish-Finnish led alliance created to contain it, it is possible for the 'motley crew of allies' to survive until British and American reinforcements arrive instead of the France-Russian Axis' victory being certain.

Here's some questions related to the newscasts of both Das Erste and ZDF:
  • What if Tagesschau (Das Erste) used teleprompter in the same period as its ZDF counterpart heute (1990s). Or better yet, both newscasts used the prompter at the same time, but earlier (late 1970s to 1980s).
  • Both newscasts are produced by either the German counterpart of either ITN or NOS (more inclined to latter than former) or even Deutsche Welle, either from Hamburg or Frankfurt.

I think it would be helpful to include what you think would change, because right now it seems like the kind of question that presents itself as a huge change... but doesn't seem to have any significant effect at first glance.

I personally thought of more subtle (?) changes alongside a more unified production in their breakfast (MoMa) and afternoon magazine (MiMa), as well as the hypothetical participation of Das Tritte in the bulletin heute - in Deutschland (another 15 minutes dedicated to regional news, perhaps).

And oh, I forgot: Expect "cross-overs" of journalists between two channels.

So, I had once been thinking about Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Sonia Gandhi.

It made me wonder whether it would be possible to have a TL in which the UK ends up having a 'Rishi Sunak'-analogue as Prime Minister whilst in India the British widow of a previous Prime Minister ends up becoming Prime Minister.
That would lead to 'interesting' diplomatic meetings I presume.

Is there any way to prevent British Leyland happening, or keep Rover out of it so the Rover SD1 is a huge success?

Or maybe GM or someone makes it in the US and thus the quality control problems are eliminated?
