Poland in this TL.
The border with Germany goes slightly more eastern - mostly along the Bober- and Oder rivers before hitting the trijuction with Stettin. Poland gets all of former East Prussia after WWII (except for a small area around and including the Königsberg harbour, annexed by the Soviet Union and given to Poland in 1989) and kept the cities of Grodno and Lwów, plus a few more square kilometers of the Białowieża primeval forest.
The city of Warsaw is also larger than in OTL - both in size and population.

Pretty cool. I'm gonna assume this is after Communism fell, as the PRL got rid of voivodeships.

I'm gonna nitpick again, it should have "Podlasie" not "Podlaskie". Podlaskie is the "of _" form such as in the name "Voivodeship of Podlasie" ("Województwo Podlaskie").

ie
Lwów -> Województwo Lwowskie
Mazowsze -> Województwo Mazowieckie
Podlasie -> Województwo Podlaskie

Also, WOW Poland got Królewiec and Grodno :eek: Also happy there's no "Województwo Świętokrzyskie" as I never liked the name.

The PoD is George Washington died during the battle of Yorktown which left the US in a precarious state. This led the early Union to disintegrate during the war of 1812 which saw New England seceding while Britain solidified its hold over the great lakes. This war also caused the British to discount the US as a threat so after the Canadian rebellions were put down, it ignored the Durham Report which would eventually stoke anti-monarchy feelings in the future.

Another war between the US and Britain again, this time over the borders of Oregon and Mexico. While Britain had a superior military, the war was far more costly than initially expected, so when New England offered to mediate an end to the conflict it was quickly accepted by both parties. The war saw that Oregon country and everything above the 45th parallel and the Indian Confederacy would go to the British, while the British would recognize large swaths of Mexico would go to the US. This peace treaty would stoke nationalist anger within the US and would set its trajectory on a path of militarization and imperialism and it would later conquer the rest of Mexico and Central America.

Canada was stifled under British colonial rule and a growing movement for democracy and federalization was fueled by colonial exiles in New England. Rebellions were frequent in the colonies but the British would always put them down. But when the economic depression hit British North America in the 1880's things were different. All at once, colonial offices were overrun in every Canadian colony in a coordinated effort right when tensions in Europe were at the breaking point. Troops from New England were called in to restore order but this only paved the way for reforms in Canada, after extensive negotiations it was agreed that the Canadian colonies would hold referendums to join New England which passed with overwhelming majorities. The union of New England and the British colonies would create the Commonwealth of Canada, in exchange for their freedom Canada would agree to maintain strong diplomatic and economic ties with Britain and would come to its aid in times of war.

Canada would come to regret this during the first Terrabellum (world war) Which would see half a generation of its men killed in the frontlines against Germany. To rub salt into the wound, the Germans would be given light reprimand to maintain the balance of power in Europe. This fueled the growing socialist movement within Canada during the interwar years. The socialist party was in the perfect position to take power after the Great Depression struck Canada, but after the 13th federal elections in 1932, the conservative bloc tried to launch a coup to prevent the socialists from taking power. This plot backfired on them as large portions of the military sided with the protestors and a new constitution was drafted creating the Peoples Republic of Canada.

The United States was alarmed by this development but ultimately chose not to interfere due to memories of the Terrabellum and concern about what the international response to a Canadian-American war would bring. But the US would seek to forge stronger relations with Nationalist Germany and Imperial Japan to form an anti-socialist bloc.

The second Terrabellum would both America and Canada remain neutral. The Eurasian powers would fight each other to a standstill and seek peace when nuclear weapons were discovered and several were lobbed at each side. The Americans and Canadians would lead a new world order but hopes for lasting peace were quickly dashed when it became clear that a new conflict was brewing between these two superpowers. Yet this conflict would not be a hot one like the last two Terrabellum's were, this war would be cold and fought by proxy and intrigue. Lines were drawn in the sand and the Canadians would lead the International-Socialist Coalition while the US would join the Pact of Steel with Germany and Japan.

As new weapons of mass destruction are developed, it's unclear exactly how this war will end, but one thing is certain. If this cold war gets hot, the next war will be fought with sticks and stones.

This was different from the usual Cold War scenarios. What is going on with Africa south of the Congo and Brazil?

In short, American racial policies. Without the northern states, the southern slave-holding states dominate the US, and slavery was thus never outlawed. While in Brazil, the monarchy never abolished slavery there so retained a base of support from the ranchers. So Brazil wasn't as united when the military overthrew the monarchy and the emperor called in for American support to restore his throne, who were more than obliged as they didn't want to be the sole nation on earth where slavery was legal. This led to the partition of Brazil with the Republican south and the Royalist north.

While South Africa is more like mega Rhodesia than the apartheid state we know from OTL. Southern Rhodesia voted to join South Africa and Britain started giving it's southern colonies to the new government. So unlike OTL, Africans aren't legally second-class citizens, they are de-facto treated as such. South Africa is also heavily anti-socialist so it was much more ideologically aligned with the US than with Canada.

What is with those baltic islands? Osel and Saremaa, especially...
Saxony as part of "SOuth Germany" is interesting (and make sense!)
But that Balkan? Independent Kosovo?
And see folks, this is why you do drafts! Haha

The Baltic Islands are an error. They should be associated with whoever is in control of them at that time IOTL (Sweden?).

As for the Balkans, I was completely unsure what to do with Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia. Wasn't sure exactly how the region was supposed to look, especially since the Treaty of San Stefano is in full effect. Happy to edit this to make it more accurate!

And thank you for the comment about the UGK! I appreciate your thoughts on this and your help!

If the treaty of San Stefano being in full effect, does that mean Russia has a lot of influence on Balkan border drawing?

San Stefano was very controversial with Russia’s other allies, the Serbs, but Macedonia wasn’t a major goal for Serbia as it was far more interested in sea access, Bosnia, and of course, Kosovo and all the historic and holy sites there that are so important to Serbian nationbuilding.

An independent Kosovo at that time is impossible unless it’s some kind of Balkan Muslim pan national thing. Some kind of “if we can’t be connected to the Ottoman Empire, we can still unite the Muslims of the Balkans in a single state. Nobody wanted independent Kosovo, and arguable nobody wants it now either as most Albanians want Kosovo to join Albania and Serbs consider it part of Serbia. Albanians wanted Kosovo for themselves and this had a bit of support from Austria and ofc Serbs wanted it with support from Russia. There were even ideas about Serbia getting northern Albania to access the sea but ofc the Albanians were fiercely opposed to that and so were the Austrians (at least as long as the Russophile faction stayed in power in Serbia). Most of the other powers more or less wanted Albani to have something similar to its modern borders though this was a low priority for them. Kosovo also is quite large, the borders of the Ottoman province from what I see. That’s somewhat unlikely. Albanian claims from around that time other than the most extreme ones generally included Metohija and the Southwest of Kosovo proper, but the only “official” government sanctioned greater Albania plan during OTLs Balkan wars left both Priština and Mitrovica (just barely) in Serbian hands. Practically no one mainstream at that point wanted Sandžak/Raška in Albanian hands and both Serbia and Montenegro wanted a slice as it housed historically important Serbian sites and was majority Slavic (and many parts were Orthodox though a good chunk of the population was and still is Muslim).

Russia’s plans for the Balkans at that point were to let Montenegro expand into Herzegovina and split Sanžak/Raška between it and Serbia, and to have Serbia expand into Bosnia and retake Kosovo. Like I said, minor expansion into Northern Albania was floated but opposed by pretty much everyone but Russia. This was roughly in line with the desires of the Serbian and Montenegrin governments.

Now, how powerful each great power is, especially Russia and Austria who are the ones really concerned with the Balkans but it’s also important to consider if Britain might want to curtail Russian influence building or whether France is friendly with one of the powers. All this will determine how much of their will the powers can impose so if you tell me that I can give a straighter answer of how I think the Balkans could look ITTL.

Very Nice.

But personally I have a slight problem with the Oder-Bober line.
Well not the line per se, but rather the administration of the extra land...
Would it be split between Saxony and Brandenburg with the former getting most?
Or would the Soviets form the Land of Lusatia?
