1. The Otomi Empire has been innovating rapidly within the last few decades,
and is beginning to experiment with paper money and the smelting of Iron tools.

2. The Kingdom of Spain has just recently stumbled across OTL newfoundland
and the new world, after one of its ships bound for the Azores was blown off course
in a massive storm.

3. The King of Angland has backed the Archbishop of Kent as Antipope in opposition
to the roman holy see, heavily under the influence of the Lombardic Kingdom of Italy.

4. The Kingdom of Francia's coffers are more than a bit strained by the constant stream
of wars fought with the Kingdom of Germany over the possession of the low countries.

5. The Visagothic Kingdom of Spain is doing quite well, with the realm having been at
peace for more than 70 years.

6. The Kingdom of Germany. not as decentralized as the historical HRE, but boy if that
isn't a low bar. currently ruled by the same royal family as Denmark's

7. The Kingdom of Avaria; If it's Coat of Arms depicting a man eating griffin doesn't
scare you off, the current bout of black plague might do the trick.

8. The personal union between the Kingdoms of Lechia and Ruthenia came about in 1519,
through the close intermarriages between the Lechian and Ruthenian royal houses. The
subjects of Ruthenia are significantly less happy about this turn of events than the Lechians are.

9. The Grand Principality of Gnezdovo is the ruler (on paper at least) of the fractious and numerous
Rus principalities. currently dealing with raids by the Oghuz Turks from the east.

10. The Eastern Roman Empire's Exarchate of the Orient has become more and more assertive
and independent of Constantinople within the last few years. It may soon break away entirely if
the long and steady decline of the ERE's central authority is not reversed soon.

11. Mecca, a thriving regional trade hub.

12. The Empire of Iran under the Larid dynasty has been, in short, a total train wreck, resulting
in the loss of vast amounts of territory long under the Empire's rule, such as Mesopotamia and Armenia.

13. The Great Oghuz Horde; currently raiding and robbing eastern europe and the Balkans blind.

14. Most of Northern India is currently under the rule of the ancient Kalachuri family, who
have ruled various parts of India dating back to the 6th century. The current Raja has converted
to Zoroastrianism, much to the consternation of his nobles and other family members.

15. The overthrow and replacement of the previously ruling Xing dynasty of China with the
Great Zhou has led to revolutionary changes in long standing aspects of Chinese culture and
administration. Imperial officials have the ability to choose and elect their own superiors at
nearly every single level of government, a massive shift away from China's historically rigid
meritocratic hierachy.

16. Shogunate of Japan

17. Most of Indonesia is under the rule of Janggala, a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom absolutely drowning in money.

18. Ethiopia is just emerging from a long period of decentralization and regional warlords.
unfortunately, with the current ruling king on his deathbed and no clear successor, it appears
poised to dive headfirst right back into chaos.

19. Kongo Kingdom

20. Mali

21. Senegal

22. Currently undergoing a succession crisis
Beautiful map, but what's the POD? No Islam?

The Republic of Nutca c. 2025
It's been a hot second hasn't it. Started making this map 2 years ago, forgot about it entirely, and finished across like 3 months this year. Shown is an independent Spanish PNW after a Spanish victory in the Nootka Crisis. Glad to finally finish a map after so long.

Oh this is lovely

My only observations are: 1. is the GDP meant to be billions in the 1,000,000,000 sense? If so, the correct term would be "mil millones" (Spanish has million -> thousand million -> billion -> thousand billion -> etcetera), 2. while "pájaro" is a correct term for "bird", the national bird would use the word "ave" which is much more elegant. I would also add the word "Nacional", "Estatal" or "Oficial" after Árbol, Pájaro and Flor, but that's just personal preference, and 3. "del Estado" is probably not needed after the word "Capital", it sounds redundant, and I would replace it for "Estatal" or "Regional" after "Bandera" in the regional flags, but again, not wrong, just not what you usually see.

Again, amazing map

shit khappens

More seriously though I adore alternate East Slavic national divergences, so I can't help but like it

What are the light green territories within Ruthenia? I can tell the west one's Halychyna, what's the one in the east? And, generally speaking, what's up with Ruthenia's... unconventional eastern borders?

What are the politics of the U.S. State of Quebec like?
Most of Quebec’s political history would be marked by tension between Anglos and Francos, much like in OTL Louisiana. The Francos would be reliable New Deal Democrat voters as the New England Acadians/Québécois and Louisiana Cajuns used to be, but like other Franco-Americans they would have trended strongly Republican over the past 10-20 years. However, due to geographic isolation (and cold weather) large swathes of the state don’t become anglicized and French is still the first language in most of the state northeast of Trois-Rivieres and the Eastern Townships. These eastern communities are also more religious ITTL, since there is no Quiet Revolution and the Francos hold onto Catholicism as a means of preserving their culture and identity. The Eastern Townships are basically completely anglophone and use a New England town government style, and Montreal only has a handful of French-speaking neighborhoods. There would likely be some sort of local Francophone interests party that wins a couple of seats to Congress or the state legislature but is otherwise a minor political force. Anglos would have a similar political evolution as the OTL Northeast as Quebec Anglos would mainly come from this stock- being solidly Republican during the Fourth Party System while becoming more Democratic during the New Deal Era on the backs of blue collar white ethnics. In the present day, the small town/rural Anglo regions such as the Eastern Townships would be majority (but not solidly) Republican, while metro Montreal would have a voting pattern typical of a major American city and metro area. The state as a whole would be swing, but with a slight advantage for the Democrats.

That’s a massive Newfoundland. And why New Ireland instead of New Brunswick? It had already been named (and separated from Nova Scotia) by 1784. And how did Saint John’s Island get to be its own state with a population of only ~70,000 in 1815? Well, hang on, I guess the Northwest Ordinance had a similar threshold and populations would always explode after a territory became a state. Hmm…

At any rate, a beautiful map with a very realistic portrayal of an American victory. I like that the little touch of Maine getting to keep its contested border. After all, Quebec is pretty darn big.
Newfoundland was made large since the idea was that the US would favor anglophone states over francophone Quebec, hence it has a much reduced size ITTL (though it’s still big). Changing New Brunswick to New Ireland was more of a creative choice, but my thinking was that the US would want to give the state a name that has less of a royal connotation (which is also why PEI is St. John’s Island). SJ would still have a tiny (sub-200k) population, but all of OTL Canada would have a larger population.

This isn't a very high quality map, but it's the first one I've done on my Mac through GIMP so I'm still learning how the software works compared to MS Paint. My basic idea is a continuation of the interwar order with some other interesting elements. The Habsburgs surrendered independently of Germany, and so were able to hold on to their empire despite losing territory to Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, and Italy. Italy doesn't gain southern Tyrol but is still given Trieste and gains land in Dalmatia, and this results in the far right being much less powerful and Mussolini never coming to power. The Weimar Republic survives in Germany due to democratic reforms championed by the SPD, and Hitler's early death means that the Nazis never rise to power. Bavaria is an interesting part of Germany in that while the rest of the country is a republic, Bavaria has maintained its monarchy under the Wittelsbachs. In particular, Crown Prince Rupprecht was appointed as Staatskommissar following the Great Depression, granting him near-dictatorial powers in Bavaria, with a referendum in the 1940s eventually restoring him as King of Bavaria under a constitutional monarchy. In the Soviet Union, Lenin was succeeded by Bukharin instead of Stalin, and the Left-SRs maintained more influence in the Communist Party, resulting in a continuation of the New Economic Policy and market socialism becomes the Soviet status quo, which eventually evolves into a system that's essentially a glorified social democracy. Europe is politically dominated by Christian democracy and social democracy, and the European Union equivalent ITTL has far fewer issues with Euroscepticism due to mostly being centered around the continent, with the USSR being part of its own international organization and the UK being at the head of a stronger Commonwealth of Nations.

I'm open to any questions about the scenario and any feedback/advice about how to use GIMP.

So this is a blessed timeline, essentially. How does the decolonization go?

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK!
What if Britain won the War of 1812 decisively?

om1PxrH.png

In 1815, the Treaty of Ghent provided a somber news to the United States of America. The War of 1812 was lost. With New England and Maryland occupied by the British, alongside New Orleans and the State of Louisiana, the Empire had fulfilled its revenge. Maine was cut off into British North America, and Tecumseh's Native Confederation was torn away from America. The Louisiana Purchase was annulled and taken over by Britain who later paid Spain for the territory and kept it as a colony of their own. During the war, Vermont had split off once again, filled with New English separatists who had decided to act - thankfully for the US, the rest of New England did not follow suit. What follows is absolute British domination of the North American continent as the fledgling United States of America is hemmed in from all sides by the British. As the year enters the new century, British Dominance on the North American continent is absolute and undeniable, as well as unquestioned.

Thoughts and comments?

Without the Nazis, and with the Bavarians keeping such a high degree of autonomy, isn’t there a chance the rest of the country still keeps in its Weimar divisions? I would think at least Prussia would be shown. Also, I half think the Italians would be more upset over not getting the lands they got from Austrian (due to them being on the Italian side of the Alps, plus being conquered by them) than they would by not getting Dalmatia. Depends how bloody the end of the war was, I suppose. Dalmatia might be seen as more attractive in a map, plus this way they are shown getting large bits of land in all spheres. We should assume the Italians got the land from Kenya and south of Libya they got IOTL? And thinking back, how does a guy go from near dictatorial poses to being a constitutional monarch?

Ignore the African/Middle Eastern borders on the edge of the map. Decolonization still happens similarly but more of the world is still colonized than in OTL. Most significantly France still controls parts of Algeria and Portugal still controls Angola and Mozambique. Hong Kong and Macau are also still controlled by the UK and Portugal respectively.

Compared to OTL this TL is incredibly blessed (no Nazis, no Stalin, no resulting crimes against humanity), but it’s still not a perfect world.

The rest of Germany maintains its Weimar borders, I just chose to highlight Bavaria in particular due to its unique system of government. Bavaria being a monarchy is actually based on an OTL proposal to give Rupprecht dictatorial control over Bavaria in the aftermath of the Great Depression. My understanding is that Rupprecht supported constitutional monarchy over absolutism, hence why his rule eventually becomes more limited.

I hadn’t considered Italy gaining territories in Africa, but we can say that Italy was given those territories in exchange for Austria keeping South Tyrol and Italy gaining less of the Dalmatian coast.

They already received those lands in Africa IOTL. If you ever decide to make a world map, maybe give Italy Togo. Strange, but it will make it stick out.

I obviously knew about Libya but I didn’t realize Italy gained land in Kenya.

Honestly a lot of this map is just borders that I thought looked nice since the scenario was more an opportunity for me to learn how GIMP works. That being said I do think it’s an interesting scenario so I might revisit it in the future and revise some of the borders. For Italy in particular I liked how Austria’s borders looked with South Tyrol and I wanted to make sure they had access to the coast.

Giving me ideas for my timeline 🤔 Definitely interesting stuff and a nice map, too !
