Interesting map at the top, but I'm afraid there are a few significant implausibilities here:

For one, why would, or how could, really, Western Antarctica suddenly be home to bunches of high-rise cities? 4*C of warming would be bad, but Antarctica would still be extremely cold.

And, also, how would the Sahara Desert be able to jump the Mediterranean? This also makes little if any sense-Southern Europe could potentially be significantly drier, but I seriously doubt genuine desert would be able to develop in most areas-the same also goes for Japan and most of the Southern U.S., too.

Very nice.

What's the status of the Indian counties, and in particular of the Praying Towns?

In many ways, no different from the other townships. They have elections and town meetings, they vote for state officials, and state laws apply to them. They enjoy some constitutional protections that other towns don't: for example, it is really difficult for land to be taken from them, though a look at their small size shows that this has happened multiple times. They also have a certain degree of legal distinctiveness. Property law works different there; the bulk of the land is common rather than privately owned. There is also a body of case law unique to the Praying Towns, much of it in native languages... I don't know enough about law to elaborate beyond that. They have a legal mandate to preserve and promote Indian culture, but there are no ethnic barriers per se; you or I could freely move into a Praying Town without legal restriction, but we probably couldn't buy land.

Could I pasture cattle on public fields? What about putting some public land under plow and then selling the fruits?

Also: so are the Praying Towns then more similar to Indian townships, or "white"/"Christian" townships?

Global warming means some places will be wetter, others drier, and in all places less predictable: we are in a dynamic, changing situation, and a looong way from the end-state of global warming. Sure, the planet may be wetter as a _whole_ in the in the year 3000 (and of course we might just climate-engineer it back in the year 2200 or whatever), but that doesn't mean it will be wetter _everywhere_, and of course lots of areas will be screwed over climate wise one way or another during the interim. Pretty much every assessment of likely effects over the next couple centuries says that drought is going to be a major concern, probably more directly damaging than rising sea levels for quite a while to come.

Plus biodiversity will take a very very long time to bounce back. Geological timeframes.

A representation of my Ottoman Empire in EU4, as of 1609. Almost all of the Empire is Sunni Muslim, except for St. Gallen (which is a Reformed Center of Reformation, and has a very annoying -.4% progress rate) and most of Hungary. Both Austria and Hungary are absolutely ruined, with Austria controlling western Switzerland and a strip of Bavaria, and Hungary controlling Slovakia and southern Silesia. I'd like to expand into Italy more, but every independent Italian country besides Naples (you're next... ;)) is allied with just about every major power on the continent, and unless I had a really large army, chances are I'd be destroyed.

Also: so are the Praying Towns then more similar to Indian townships, or "white"/"Christian" townships?

I'll answer this question first, since it's much bigger. First, "Praying" is a very antiquated name for them. Religion ceased to be their main reason for being centuries ago; the old name has stuck around because no one could think of a better name, or possibly because no one cared to. But they were founded as mission settlements for Indians. In OTL, the Praying Indians were allowed to stay in the state, while hostile Indians were driven away... but eventually the Praying Indians mostly died off and/or lost their land and autonomy. In TTL these 17th-century communities survived and adapted to the modern world.

I forgot that I did not post the text in this thread; you can find it at the bottom of the original post.

But basically, the premise of this world is that races and cultures interacted in very different ways from OTL. The hard lines between White and Indian, this is the State and on that line is the Tribe, did not develop; instead, some of the earlier patterns of mutual accommodation persisted. You might call it an overly optimistic picture, but that's why I chose to call it "The ASB."

So the Praying Towns are not really like reservations of OTL. Yes, they they involved resettlement and cultural domination of Indians by English, but more than that they were in invitation to Indians to join the political order of New England. They did not cease to be Indian, but they were expected to govern themselves like the other Massachusetts towns. Their survival depended on a rather high toleration for cultural pluralism for Puritan New England... which is why I suppose they didn't last. In TTL they did, and they kept their Indian identity, even their tribal identities to a certain extent, despite big demographic changes. Many citizens of the Praying Towns today might identify as Indian but have very little Indian blood in them. Indigenous languages are propped up through years of being taught in the local schools, but they're definitely under threat.

Could I pasture cattle on public fields? What about putting some public land under plow and then selling the fruits?

Yes you certainly could, within the laws and procedures that regulate that sort of thing. Keep in mind that while most of the Praying Towns are in rural areas, they are still part of the modern world, with the relatively small agricultural workforce that comes with that.

That's pretty impressive. Good job. I now live in Tanzania.

Watching Man In the High Castle and doodling, I imagine the independent pacific states being a truly mixed race state, and Canada being a major power with the A-bomb because of all of the English/French/American refugees fleeing the Reich, and the Reich tolerating its existence as a dump for trouble makers. The first map is set in 1964, then every 20 years. By 2004 every nation is a healthy democracy apart from the Reich, which is stuck in the Caribbean. Just a quick drawing so not thinking too hard about any sort of plausibility.

What are those little pockets in the midwest/northeast between US and Canadian territory?

Canadian backed rebellions in 1964? Is that canon? I thought that was around the time the book was set wasn't it?
