Random map. No real POD in mind, but it's probably sometime in the late 17th century.

As always, very nicely done.

I like the colour scheme, the way you did the oceans - not overdone.

Another thing I really like is how you put labels on only certain countries. I try to do that, but never know which ones to label

A different inter-war period. No real TL to speak of, just a map.
The world in 1938.
globe1938aw1.png

The soviet nations formed after 1917 utterly failed to coagulate into the large federation hoped for by Lenin. Many fell to autocrats and military dictatorships. Another failure for the RSFSR was the creation of a rump Tsarist Russia, supported by the Allies.
Throughout the 1920s, the world witnesses the balkanization of China & Central Asia due to the invasion of China by Japanese and Chinese Royalist forces. Manchuria was established as a puppet state of Japan, ruled by former Qing ruler, Henry Puyi. In 1932, no longer content with being Emperor of Manchuria, Puyi was re-installed as Emperor of China, after the capture of Peking by Japanese forces. The Republic of China holds onto the coast by a few threads of skin, while the southern part of the Republic erupts in a communist rebellion, effectively cleaving the Republic of China in half. Colonial powers take advantage of Chinese weakness, and capture parts of it. At the same time, in Central Asia, Uyghurstan is declared to be the East Turkestan Republic, independent of China or any of the Turkic states. Most of southern Turkestan has been formed into the Khorzem Federation, with its capital at Samarkand. It, along with Afghanistan, quickly becomes a puppet state of Britain. Mongolia is formed as a Japanese puppet-state.
In Europe, a treaty exchanges German control of East Prussia and Eastern Pomerania for the union of Germany and Austria, in 1921. The provinces released become Republics. France remains angered at the situation. It is justified, however, as being for the greater stability of Europe. By 1925, Poland seizes control of both East Prussia and Eastern Pomerania. German-Polish relations become strained throughout the 1920s and 1930s. The seizure of the Polish government by the military increased the tensions in Europe.
The middle-east after WWI was changed considerably. Kurdistan was given independence, with the son of the Ottoman Emperor as Sultan of the Kurds. British and French troops supported the Kurdish state, as well as the Pontic Greek republic, and Greater Armenian state, and various non-Soviet governments throughout the Caucasus. Mesopotamia is partitioned by Persia, Britain, France, and Saudi Arabia.
By 1938, however, trouble is brewing. Poland has set its sights on Eastern Europe, its leaders wishing to create a Pan-Slavic Federation in the east. Russia also eyes the east, and the Caucasus, seeking to regain what it lost. Japan's military elite hunger for the rest of Southeast Asia, and nationalists want to "boot out the imperialist Europeans". Italy seeks more land in the Mediterranean and Africa, and conquers Albania and Abyssinia by 1937. Turkey also eyes Africa, and Greece. Eastern Germany & Czechoslovakia, Belarus & Ukraine, Tsarist Russia & Finland, and the jungles of South Asia; they are about to become battlegrounds of a new, terrifying war...

Very nice... Looks like a historical document our ATL contemporaries might gaze upon at a museum.

Indeed, it's a very well-crafted map that has a very apt color scheme, and background design. That said, I'd like more information about the developments in India and China. As far as the map goes, however, I'd not make a single change.

A continuation of my map and time line to 1925

Abandon Hope All Ye Who Pass Here: Big Ol' Time and Map Ahead

1915
Kaiser Wilhelm II, Emperor of Germany and King of Prussia is assassinated by a Russian anarchist during a parade in Berlin. The assassin is shot dead by the Kaiser's bodyguard; the Kaiser dies hours later at a nearby hospital of massive internal bleeding. Crown Prince Wilhelm ascends to the throne as Kaiser Wilhelm III, and shortly thereafter declares war on Russia for having his father assassinated. There is no actually proof the Russian monarchy supported the assassination of Wilhelm II however that made little difference. Shortly there after France declares war on Germany. The Netherlands and Spain declare war on France; and Romania, Japan, Turkey, and Scandinavia declare war on Russia. Sardinia jumps in the fray declaring war on Turkey for no other reason then to try and take Libya.

1916
The Netherlands and Germany invade Belgium and Luxembourg on their way to Paris, however the von Schlieffen Plan fails when the Belgians aided by the French put up a massive unified resistance. This stalls the German advance for almost a year.

In Western Russia, Germany, Scandinavia, and Romania have begun pushing into the Russian homeland. Germany besieges Warsaw for almost 4 months before Russian troops surrender. Romania advances into Moldavia, and Scandinavia advances into Finland to liberate Finland and Karelia. The Russo-Turkish front is almost non-existent, as both nations have other fronts to worry about. Winter arrives and the German forces are forced to dig in and hold their ground until the spring thaw.

In the Far East Japan takes up a massive offensive against Russian held Khabarovsk. While they make progress it is slow and casualties are very high. In China, Germany invades French Indo-China and French China, and slowly but surely gains ground. Likewise the Japanese begin limited incursions into French China.

In Africa, German Troops over run the Belgian Congo, and push into French West Africa. The French for their part have minimal troops in their colonial holdings as most have been sent to hold off the invading German in France. The French foreign legion does manage to take some ground, but little progress is made. Meanwhile the Spanish successful push into French West Africa from Morocco. And in South America, French Guiana is overrun by German troops from Suriname.

1917
Following the the aggression of Germany around the world, Korea and Ethiopia sign Treaties of Protection with Austria, making them protectorates of the Kaiser.

In the European Theatre Belgium is finally overrun be the German and Dutch forces. The hold outs are in Brussels and Antwerp. In the siege of Brussels a stray artillery shell crashes through the Belgian Royal Palace killing most of the Belgian royal family who were preparing to flee the city. Following the fall of Belgium, Germany attempts to push into France and fails. Fighting quickly falls into trench warfare on the French border. In Russia, German, Romanian, and Scandinavian forces continue to push to their targets. Germany begins pushing into the Baltic States as Scandinavia marches to Helsinki. Romania successfully pacifies Moldavia and being to consolidate its position.

In Africa, Sardinia and the French Foreign Legion capture Libya and force a separate peace with Ottoman Turkey. The two nations divide Libya with France taking the interior and Sardinia taking the coastline.

1918
King Carol I of Romania dies, he is succeeded by his nephew Ferdinand I.

In Russia the Russian Revolution occurs. Communist forces lead by Vladimir Lenin revolt throwing Russia into civil war. Communist forces quickly gain the upper hand taking Moscow and St. Petersburg, however the fighting does not end for nearly two years. With the civil war in Russia, Germany and Scandinavia sweep into liberate their targeted areas with little opposition. Following the conquest of Finland and Karelia by Scandinavia and the Baltic States and the rest of Poland by Germany; Japan, Germany, Scandinavia, and Roman signs peace accords with both signs of the Russian civil war. Elsewhere in Europe all fluid battle lines descend into trench warfare.

In Africa German forces invade Madagascar and secure a foothold by the end of the year.

1919
The Great War ends. After months of no movement on the battlefields and causalties numbering in millions France signs peace accords with Germany, Spain, Holland, and Japan. In effect it establishes new borders at the farthest advance of any nation. Thus France loses lands in Africa and most of her colonial holdings in China and Asia.

1920
Kaiser Franz Joseph I von Habsburg-Lothringen, Emperor of Austria dies at age 90. He is the second longest reigning monarch in history and the longest German Speaking one. His funeral in Vienna is one of the largest in history having an estimated 1 million people pack into the city for it. It is also the largest gathering of heads of state including the Kings of England, Scandinavia, Naples, and Greece, the Emperor of Mexico, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, and even the President of the United States of America, Charles Evans Hughes, who is the first President to travel outside of the western hemisphere while in office, to name a few. Austria enters a period of nearly six months of morning during which newly coronated Kaiser Rudolph I declares his father the Greatest Austrian to ever live, and gives him the title Father of Austria. Rudolph also effectively forces the Catholic Church to begin the process of beautification of his father. In a rushed process, to appease the Austrian court, the Vaitican places Franz Joseph on the canon and quickly moves him to the third step of canonization. His resting title by 1924 is His Imperial Majesty, Father of Austria, Kaiser Franz Joseph the Blessed, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia, King of Hungary.

While the Western World morns the death of one of its great champions, in Russia the civil War ends with the death of the Imperial Family and the rise of the Soviets. Old Imperial Russia is reorganized into the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic and out of old Russian lands are created the Mongolian Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Republic of Ukraine, the Central Asian Soviet Socialist Republic and the People’s Republic of Xinjiang.

1921
The Soviets begin stirring up trouble in northern Persia, inciting Pro-Communist rebellions. Britain and America not wanting to see a vital oil life line fall begin preapring to secure Persia’s oil.

1922
Soviet forces invade Persia to “liberate” the country for the capitalist, imperialist pigs. Britain, America, and later Austria send in troops to secure as much of Persia from the Soviet as possible. Although the Soviet attempt to take the whole country they can barely push past the old Russian sphere of influence.

1923
Lenin announces in Moscow the creation of the Iranian Socialist Republic. Days later British, Austrian, and American diplomats in Shiraz announce the formation of the Kingdom of Persia, a constitutional monarchy in the style of Great Britain under Reza Pahlavi as Shah of Persia. American forces remain in the country for the next several decade to ensure the Soviet don’t attempt to forcibly reunite the two nations.

1925
August I of Mexico dies, as he has no male heirs his daughter Maria Josepha ascends to the throne assuming the title Empress Maria I of Mexico. She is coronated in Vienna, the first female head of state to do so since Maria-Theresa.

The world appears to be holding stable, however its always clam before the storm.

The US might but Grant was never elected President, and he never amended the Monroe Doctrine. Therefore since technically Guiana was French until they ceded it to Germany at the end of the war the US really doesn't care. Plus Americans generally don't want to get involved in the war especially on the side that is obviously loosing.

So, the Yanks should snatch up the place before the Germans get there.

Well The Germans some how *cough* they were just looking for an excuse to go to war with Russia and France *cough* have troops already stationed in Suriname and Guiana is over run rather quickly. Also because the USA has all that land in China, they've been a little more worried about their Pacific fleet and can't really stand up to the German Navy in the Atlantic even with the Panama Canal. Likewise if they did they'd lose Austrian and British support as both see the war as an utter pointless loss of life. Plus 1916 is an election year and with Taft running for reelection, for a third term, and The Democratic Candidate (Woodrow Wilson) standing fair chance of winning, something that hasn't happened since before Lincoln (American Politics is dominated by the GOP until the Great Depression Hits) the GOP wants to try to get the American People to relect Taft.

The world, 1943.
globe1943gt1.png

The war has begun, and already Europe is polarizing- Greater Poland, Italy, Spain, Japan, Hungary, Turkey, and Brazil fighting against the Russias, Greece, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Finland, the Netherlands, Great Britain & Commonwealth, and France. A neutral Germany and Scandinavia severely hampers the Allied efforts against Poland. However, in 1941, the United States is forced into the conflict by Japanese attacks on the Philippines and Hawaii. Germany, deeply respecting the US due to Wilson's attempts to unite Germany and Austria during his presidency, declares war against Japan, joining the Allied war effort in 1942. And, now, we come to early 1943, as Polish forces move into Eastern Germany, and Russian armies prepare for a great offensive into Polish-occupied Eastern Europe.

Now that needs some explaining! Greater Poland and Central America, mostly.
Oh. Yes, sorry. The "Greater Poland" is the realization of several pan-east leaders in Poland and the Baltics, who succeed in uniting the Baltic states with Poland into a federation. However, it quickly becomes a military dictatorship, and an aggressive one at that. This leads to the second World War in 1940, when Poland invades Tsarist Russia, Ukraine, and Danzig, prompting a declaration of war by Britain, France, and an unprepared Soviet Russia.
Central America's situation is the end result of more rapid US imperialism upon the region, which simply turned the region into a territory, along with Hispaniola and Cuba. Later, it becomes a commonwealth with a possibility for statehood, much like Puerto Rico.

Is part of Finland under Belgian oocupiation?
No. Poland & Belgium just have similar colors.

Huh my eyes must just being finally going because I could swear to God Poland is a sky blue and the color in Finland is lilac, and therefore more of a belgian color.

It looks that way to me as well. Still, a Polish enclave in Finland of that size at that time is ASB IMO.
