Nothing serious here, I just needed to visualize the true maximum extent of imperialism.

S. America doesn't seem quite right.... at least not quite logical? Is there a rationale for how you divided by the countries?

And how long would the Ottomans last in this world?

World, 1863.

The political tensions within the Holy Roman Empire and within the United States have exploded into civil war. The forces at work in the American Civil War need no introduction. However, those in the Empire need some explaining.
The very pan-German sentiment which brought the Empire power under Vandox I gave way to a new political ideology, Saalism, named after the Principality Kaiser Vandox ruled before he became Emperor. After revolutions engulfed France in 1848, and a second Republic toppled the corrupt Second Directorate, revolutionary ideals spread across Europe. Saalism became influenced by Karl Marx's Socialism after this Revolution of Ideas. Saalism developed into a universalist and monarchic form of democratic socialism, which was met with fierce opposition by the masses of capitalistic German Nationalists. During the early 1850s, the seizure of France's government Louis Napoleon and his transformation of the Republic into the Second Empire saw a triumph for Saalism. The 1850s also saw a Russian attempt to conquer Poland and parts of the Ottoman Empire. The three bloody regional wars, collectively known as the Russian Conflict, were waged across Eastern Poland, the Caucasus, and the Crimea. In 1856, the Mexican province of Baja California gained its independence by selling a massive amount of gold and mining rights to the Mexican government. In 1859, a rebellion in northern Mexico erupted into the Mexican Revolution, which quickly swept most of the country into an anti-monarchist civil war between the Mexican Empire and the United Republic of Mexico.
In 1860, the southern United States, starting with the Carolinas, Georgia, and Mississippi, seceded from the Union. They were joined by Texas, Virginia, East and West Florida, Tennessee, and Arkansas. The Confederate States of America was formed. It was not until March 18, 1861, however, that the frequent skirmishes and hostilities escalated into a full-blown civil war.
In December of 1862, hostilities in Germany erupted into the Imperial Civil War. In many German states, nationalist leaders overthrew their complacent monarchs and formed their nations into Republics. The nationalists marched on Frankfurt, and formed the German Confederation in January of 1863. Now, we find ourselves in the summer of that year...
During the spring, the Confederation had made aggressive attacks in the Netherlands and into Austrian and Prussian lands. Meanwhile, the Italian states united into the Republic of Italy, while Latium became the Roman Republic. Romanian and Bulgar lands rebelled in nationalist uprisings, as did Bohemia and Poland. In August, the German nationalists approached Vienna, and the great battle was on...

Those BASTARDS! They killed China! And why did the Dutch get anything in China?
You're right, that definately was supposed to be American... I'll edit it.

I also can only count 16 independant countries.
Of which four (Free Brazil, Equador, Peru and Switzerland) are being heavily influenced by a major power...

Also, why were you envisioning the maximum extent of Imperialism?
Why not would be a better question. WW1 was a war for the redistribution of the already divided world, but as you can see it wasn't entirely divided. Although the places still empty were either too huge, like China to control, or were already ex-European colonies like the Americas. This scenario has the ASBs making the European leaders sign a pact not to attack each other, and dividing the last acre of land. I estimated that by 1928 they would run out of undivided land again.

May be I should continue this and draw one after the Great War (with 1920s tech, oooh!). I see it as being Britain-Germany-Netherlands-Japan-Austria vs US-France-Russia-Belgium-Italy. The Ottomans and Spain are kind of caught between a rock and a hard place, while Sweeden, Denmark, Portugal and the rest will stay neutral.

Well, I think I've lost it.

For the past couple of weeks, I've really been in a rut on what to make a map about - and whenever I try, it comes out looking like crap.

Don't know what to do, now.

:(

The Alliances

This will probably be my last map for a little while.

Another one, this one in early 20th century, with 3 great alliances and the potential for war rising.

The map isn't in the usual colors, because I've tried to use similar colors to indicate countries that allied to each other

The alliances are [each in rough order of military strength of its members]

The Triple Alliance - Shades of Gray
= Germany
= CSA
= Empire of Brazil

The Quintuple Entente - Shades of Blue
= France
= Russia
= USA
= Sweden
= Argentina

The Anglo-Japanese Pact - Pinky/Magenta
= Great Britain
= Japan

All other countries (Greens, Yellow, Brown, Orange, etc.) are considered uncommitted or probable neutrals, although obviously some countries are closer than others (e.g. Italy is friendly with Britain). Greater Egypt is a British protectorate.

Dixie-wank!

Updated

I colored Liberia the wrong color, it should have been a US protectorate.

I also figured it would be more fun to make mega-Egypt into a British ally, rather than a protectorate. In this TL, Egyptian modernization went really well.

So here's the updated version

(I just made one other change as well: No Anglo-Russian agreement - Iran=British Protectorate, Afghanistan=Russian - that should up the tension and increase the chances of a 3-way war... No more changes, I promise)
