Where should my protagonist come from?

I am writing a TL on Burma modernising after the first Anglo - Burmese War in the 1820's and am after a suitable foreign military officer as a major character. My criterion is: A light infantry officer who has fought in the Napoleonic Wars or a subsequent conflict and would be suitably restless in a time of peace.

In order to modernise without unduly antagonising the British in India, I was considering a Portugese Cazadore or a Hannoverian from the former KGL? I am also open to suggestions for a real historical figure or other options.

Maybe a disenfranchised member of Napoleon's Polish Corps, which ceased to exist along with the entire country after the Napoleonic Wars? I gather there were a fair amount of Poles who simply left the area when their country was essentially liquidated.

What about an American from the 60th (Royal American Regiment) of foot light battallion. Basically an American trained and armed in the manner of the 95th Rifles.

I have considered the American option before, as the idea of a 'frontiersman' is intriguing. Though the idea of a Hannoverian soldier intrigues me with a certain synergy between a white horse and a white elephant...

The 60th Regt were Americanin name only-in actuality a right old mix with a few Americans, assorted emigres and lots more Britons and Irish. What about from the Chasseurs Brittaniques-a right old set of scoundrels they were! (they were in 7th Div along with the 51st LI (Ensign Dyas and what have you), heck so many to choose from!

King's German Legion. Just because the idea is cool (another poster explained why, I just like the idea on general principles).

Not that the others can't be, since light infantry officers looking for something to do are bound to be interesting. But you asked for opinions.

I have done some more online reading about the 60th Regiment and I wanted to know if any Native Americans fought in the unit? Additionally if a suitably interested American wanted to join the 60th to seek adventure, how would he go about it and is it plausible?

I will also look at the French expatriate unit in Britain and resume studying of the KGL.

I voted for the KGL. Makes sense since after the Battle of Waterloo only some of them were absorbed into the army of Hanover which had been reinstated along with the kingdom, the rest found themselves unemployed. Plus a German might be less threatening than a Portuguese soldier since they're not a colonial power. Well that and I like the KGL and think they should be used more. :)

I have decided on a KGL officer as well, now what is the chance of a Hanoverian officer attending the Prussian military academy? Personally I think there is a reasonable chance, because Scharnhorst the creator was originally from Hanover.

I had originally conceived that the team would be engaged on a personal level, but with an infantry detachment, artillery, engineers and signals... this would be difficult to hide. Alternatively I was of the opinion that the government should request further specialists after the Infantry soldiers have improved.

Now the make up of the advisory team:

1 x Major Light Infantry
1 x Captain Light Infantry
1 x RSM Light Infantry
3 x Sergeants Light Infantry
1 x Armourer

For the remainder I was thinking some artillery specialists, but if someone is able to help me with the make up. That would be appreciated.
