Let say the Israeli had the F-14 Yom Kipper war

They were dealing with both. The Egyptians and Syrians used Mig-25s, often with Soviet pilots for reconnaissance over Israel. The IDF had serious problems trying to deal with those recon flights.

Given the size of Israel and the speed of the MIG-25 the Israelis will have trouble with the Mig-25 no matter what interceptor they have. Foxbat will be in and out of the airspace almost before you can react even if you have standing air patrols. Like the American recon flights over Cuba.

Yeah but the things I've read are that the speed was less of a problem than the altitude. Up until the IDF got the F-15 they didn't have anything which could get in firing range of a Mig-25.

The Israelies did indeed down several Mig-25s IIRC with snap up Sparrow shots after they acquired F-15s.

Remember, the Mig-25 is horrendously unmanueverable. IIRC its G limit is something like 2.5 or so. Not too far from a modern airliner. Despite being made of rather heavy steel.

Israel might have well had option well get F-14 in 1972 just handle the Mig-25. Would negative effect on intelligence for the Arabs. It also the F-15 project cancel.

As others have said the IDFAF used the (gun armed) F4E as a fighter bomber, but the main thing is that the F4E started entering service just as Israel started accepting AAMs. By then the US, USSR and Britain had already been through the 'no guns' phase and were coming out the other side. By then AAMs had been in service and combat for a decade and more developed second versions were in service.

To be honest Israel probably didn't lose much by sticking to guns more the vast majority of things until 1969. AAMs like AIM9B were useful only in specific circumstances and guns were highly relevent throughout the 60s.
