I'm personally a bit torn on this subject - unfortunately there's not enough written about Leopold of Hohenzollern's character (not that I've been able to find anyway) to suggest whether his presence on the Spanish throne would've made any long-term difference, or if he would've hastily departed like Amadeo did... as far as the Franco-Prussian War, it would've made no difference since France wound up declaring war anyway even after his nomination had been withdrawn...
