Lady Vesta (Formerly Known As Lady Liberty) overlooking the Suez

What if the Statue of Liberty would have been placed at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal as originally intended?

How would this change the Canal and Egypt? Gaining an Icon.
How would this change New York and the USA? Losing an Icon.
What would "Lady Vesta" have endured through time and would it still stand today?

I suspect it would end up being torn down by the Egyptians about the same time they tore down the statue of Ferdinand de Lesseps.

:confused:First I've heard of this. Any links?
Not quite right. Frederic Batholdi, the designer ( not really a sculptor was he?) visited Egypt and had the idea of a lighthouse in a similar form to that of the SoL, but in Egyptian dress. The deal never happened as the Khedive was broke.
Personally, I would like to see the New York SoL looking like the original painting that inspired it, "Truth" by Lefebvre-- so!
