This analysis of a unified pre-Qin Sichuan civilization is really interesting. More specifically, what if the Ba people had unified the basin, built a cohesive state incorporating the Shu, and then began to expand outwards, perhaps towards Qin or their traditional Chu enemies that had pushed them westwards? The Ba, though practicing only small-scale agriculture themselves, were known for their soldiers and I think given the right circumstances could have placed themselves as the ruling class of a conquered Shu people. How would the warring states have reacted to the introduction of this semi-foreign power and what consequences might it have had?
