Here is a map tool that allows you to see a variety of maps of just about any location in the United States for the last 100 years. Just type in the place name, search, and see what comes up.

Nice resource. Pity it only seems to go back to the mid-nineteenth century (I'm talking about for places that existed before then, obviously!)
