Independent Hyderabad

I dare say this has been asked before but what would have happened if Hyderabad had managed to remain independent?? in the 40s??

I don't see how Hyderabad could have fought off the Republicans, not unless they had a powerful ally of some sort...and who would have done it? Certainly not Britain, as we wanted to wash our hands of Indian affairs after '47; France was still picking up the pieces; China was in civil war; America wanted a united republican India; ditto for the USSR.

The population was against the ruler too, you'd need to change things before independance. Hyderabad is too integral to India, it isn't going to sneak away.
