They stayed Communist after the Third World War, and when the Baja War broke out after Baja became the 51st State on 1 Jan 2010, they started another war with the U.S.. Three weeks later, it was over after the U.S. Army and Marines took Mexico's four northernmost states and part of a fifth (this includes most of Mexico's oil fields). The Mexican government that started the war was overthrown and was replaced by another group of Communists who call themselves the PLDP (Popular Liberal Democratic Party in English). They are neither of the three, and have four major Anti-Communist insurgent groups to deal with, and the Zapatistias, who think the current regime-and its predecessor-are/were not Communist enough.
The current regime is in power because it pays its soldiers well and on time. It also lets the Army do its thing without too much in the way of loyalty checks. They are also fortunate that the rebel groups spend much of their time fighting each other instead of the Government.

I was expecting Communist Mexico would not last after the fall of the USSR. Hence, I'm surprised it's still alive by 2010. What would happen to the historical forts, churches, and Mayan/Aztec pyramids? Did the Communist Mexico regime destroy them just like the Red Guards during Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution?
So how is Mexico like? Is it like OTL in terms of territory or is it a failed state with multiple governments claiming legitimacy in the eyes of the international community?
And since Baja became the 51 state, do other territories like Puerto Rico, Guam, Marianas, and the Trust Territory (Palau, Micronesia, and Marshall Islands) become states as well?
Definitely weaker. In other words, the U.S. could make a deal with the devil and supply them with surplus weapons from WWIII to keep the Communist Mexico regime destabilized.
Deal with the Cartels like yeah having the poor Commie Mexican Army got their body parts chopped off in pieces and placed on the areas to scare them like OTL Cartels doing gruesome macabre of chopping their rivals and snitches in pieces and placed it on roads and underpasses as a warning.
The cartels in the four states occupied by the U.S. have been eradicated. Yes, they were used as tools by the Communists in Mexico and the “Revolutionary Government” got a cut. The war did cut into their profits, and when it was found out they had helped get Spetsnatz and Cuban TE (their SOF) into the U.S. prewar? The cartels were viewed as a national security threat and treated accordingly.
Nobody expected the Communist Government to last six months after the cease-fire. They turned out to be pretty ruthless and determined. Rallying most people to their side worked at first, and still does in Central Mexico and along the new ceasefire line. But the rest? Not so much.
The Communists running things were no fools re: the old ruins and Spanish era buildings. Those brought in foreign tourists and the hard cash with them (though hardly any from the U.S.). They were more Soviet/Cuban thinking than Maoist (and those were purged for the most part) Those who escaped formed the Zapatistas.

With regards to the Tomcat image, I ask: WHAT?! Why would VF-114 be operating that far inland, unless Enterprise either took a lot of damage or was in for overhaul/refit?
