Heraldry colour schemes

This is an experiment in using Excel to organise my colour schemes. This particular section deals with heraldic colours.

It should be borne in mind that there is no "official" rgb value for any of these. These particular values are drawn from screen shots. However, a coat of arms using other shades of these colours should not be considered "wrong".

Any row listed as "rare" is not commonly used in Anglo-American heraldry. I have noted the countries or contexts in which they are commonly used.

Aside from the heraldry value of these, I'm particularly interested in what people think of the formatting. I suspect it may be useful to have a separate column for ASB, modern, ATL, and so on countries that use the same colour.

References

  • My primary source is the Heraldry Society's education pack (pdf)
  • Rose was taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Campbell
  • Copper was taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_(color)
  • I adjusted sable and argent slightly so that the darker/paler shades would actually be different from the core shade. (And yes, I get that the dark/pale shades aren't really appropriate for heraldry; these colours could be appropriated for use as country colours though.)
  • Brunâtre is listed in wikipedia as a continental European version of tenné.
  • All colours not listed in one of the above were taken from screen-shots of the relevant wikipedia page.
