Considering Washington's misguided activities in the years just before his death, when he came dangerously close to advocating the use of a standing army to suppress the dissent of Jefferson and his followers, it's probable good for Washington's reputation that he died when he did.

Hoo boy, that would open a can of worms. But he would also theoretically outlive his two successors (Adams and Jefferson), since they died in 1826.

I feel the Civil War would be severly different due to Washington still being alive during much of the slave states-free states issue, whos favor he throws his hand for is anyones guess.

He'd work on the side of compromise, and with the Father of the Nation alive and well most people would avoid extremist rhetoric (on both sides of the issue) to avoid, if nothing else, looking bad in Washington's eyes.

This would have the side effect of kicking the can down the road, after his death things would heat up, but would it result in war? Not sure...

The only proper day for Washington to die would have been July 4th 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence, and the same day that both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died.

Triple Header!

Can you imagine the mythologizing that would have happened afterwards?

Maybe have James Monroe die exactly five years to the day earlier than he did in OTL, on -- you guessed it -- July 4th 1826! Quadruple Header!

Virginian though he might be, one can see from his writings that he was a firm nationalist and had grown to disapprove of slavery. The hint of secession in the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions terrified him. Had he lived long enough, he would have despised the followers of John C. Calhoun.

Assuming he is in reasonably good health for much of that "extra period," that's going to really alter American democracy. He presumably won't retire after two terms in TTL (since he did so due to failing health in OTL), so how much longer will he remain President? If he's President for say, 16 or 20 years, that sets a completely different precedent than OTL. We are now talking about a situation where a single man can govern the country for a generation, and surely the power of the presidency will only be greater, possibly moving towards dictatorial levels...
