French Egypt, Syria

As early as the 1770s there were French plans to seize Egypt and Syria from the Ottoman Empire.
Of course Britain in the post-Napoleon era especially as it defeated the Marathas and conquered India would like to keep the sea routes to India unthreatened, and a French Egypt does not play into this plan. Is there any way French Egypt could be achieved?

Either find way to avoid French Revolution or then Napoleon winning his wars.

Or make the French India Company more powerful and successful (which also in turn weakens the UK).

Is Egypt taking a lot of loans from French businessmen enough? It would need a significantly richer France though.
