Federal Broadcasting Network - A New Deal BBC?

Is a Federal radio and TV station along the lines of the BBC at all possible?
I think, given the cultural involvement of iniatives under the WPA (Works Progress Administration) with programs like the Federal Writes Bureau and FDR's love of talking over the radio, it's possible. Anyone know how it could happen?

I do not think that a US BBC could be formed as in the UK the BBC was set up and running for some consirable time before commercial compition was alowed wherease it would be the other way around with the commercial networks already established. Also I do not see the licances fee being succsefull in the US. One of the secrets of the sucess of the Beeb is that the tresuray can not get its claws into the funding so it can not be collected and then diverted to something elso so they know what there revune will be year on year.
