Ok guys, how can we have a democratic USA (comprising its current borders), that has its population wanting to conquer the world with a perverted Manifest Destiny?

Even better if the rest of the world thinks the USA can do it, and so is prepping for the day when they try to.

Hm, maybe if you give the slave states more power (NW Ordinance doesn't ban slavery, no 3/5 Compromise)? As soil wears out, they're constantly looking for new land for plantations?

"We're going to conquer you to bring democracy to you"? Not sure how you could quite bring that off, but the slogans would be positively Orwellian.

Ultra-nationalism that basically says we should fight every country thats against us.

Practical Jingoism is fight every country that is within our strategic interest.

Nope- It has to be democratic.

Maybe a TR-esque character radically changes American policy and national outlook concerning other nations?

True- I thought you meant "nation under the rule of an Emperor", not an Empire in the modern sense.
