Equip Your Post-WWII Army

Based on Tank Cdr's thread about how people would equip their WWII-era armies. How would you equip your post-war armies? Any weapon system developed after August 15, 1945 is fair game.

P.S: If this is too broad a category, feel free to divide your listings up by decade/war/whatever, if you so desire.

Alright.

Everyone here should keep the posting standards of the WWII thread. No nation-state backstories, just weapons listings and justifications (and of course, discussion).

It dose make a difference in what part of the world you are in and who your possible enemy will be .

It does, but let's assume a well-equipped state ready for a conventional, no-WMD war. A WWII-style war. But if you want to make lists for guerilla forces or something else, feel free to do so.

Any thread can I was hoping to see an interesting discussion on why people would take different types of equipment as a Island nation that all you could see is a game idea .

I'd equip infantry with AK-47s, as they were pretty much the best gun in the world at the time. Some PPSHs.

Copy German Panther tank designs and those big Soviet ones (forgot the name).

Katyusha rockets. German conventional artillery.

Me-262s.

I can only really comment on military aircraft but I think a good start would be to acquire plenty of WW2 surplus equipment, both as front line equipment and also as spares.
In the aircraft dept that probably means UK/US stuff as it seems that getting stuff from the soviets usually came with an ideological price tag.
Dakotas, Mustangs, Harvards, Catalinas etc. Quantity depending on the size of the country's military but you get the drift.
Same bargain basement approach to building an army and a navy.
jeeps, chrysler trucks, shermans and so on.

think it is a good idea to put it in period slots, because post war can be anything from late '45 till today. And then todays weapons usually end up as best.

Maybe following slots:
1. directly post war (till end of '45)
2. till 1950
3. till 1960

etc every time a slot thats a decade later.

And as already discussed in the other thread, a lot depends on the country/theater it is meant for (geographic limitations and economic limitations)

One thing to try to do is go for is to keep your supply chain as simple as possible. So I would pick single state sources for types.

For example I would go all with American Aircraft for the Airforce.

P-51’s as fighter / interceptor / ground attack aircraft, large numbers would be available.
P-38’s (perhaps re-engined to us Merlins in place of the Alison) as the radar interceptor / night fighter
B-17 / 24 would be available in large numbers right after the war
If bothered with the Medium bomber role the B-25 is the clear choice
C-47/53 would available in large numbers and are an excellent design for transport role.

I would go also with American small arms, M-1 Garand’s, .30 and .50 Brownings, Thompsons as the SMG.

Armor and Artillery I would go Soviet.

T-34/85 as the primary tank, fresh built ones would be available. If was aware of the T-44 would got that instead but that’s unlikely. Use whatever tank chassis as a basis for a number of other uses such as.

SU-100 as a tank destroyer design, SU-122 SP Howitzer, recovery vehicles, flak designs, etc.

A standard selection of Soviet Artillery

Of course this type of setup would only work for a neutral nation but it would I feel have the best of all worlds.

This is post-WWII. Why copy the Panther when the T-55 will be available in just a few years? It's better, cheaper, easier to maintain, easy to upgrade, and spare parts will never be a problem.

honestly Soviet equipment comes with to much baggage so its out
