DBWI: Annie Oakley does not accidentlly kill Kaiser Wilhelm II

Now, we all know how Annie Oakley accidentally shot and kill the new Kaiser, Wilhelm II, in 1889. What if her aim, and true, and she hit the cigar.

That old quip? Does anyone actually believe her story that she didn't mean to shoot the Kaiser? Of course I know Wilhelm agreed to allow her to shoot at him. But I believe she came with the intent of killing the German Emperor. And she succeeded in her goal.

Why would she what to kill Wilhelm in the first place?

Because she was insane? why else do people like her do what they do?

Yes, because everybody that likes guns is insane.

She was charged with manslaughter (or the German equivalent) NOT murder, regicide, etc...

She also grazed the top of his skull, she missed by no more than a fraction of an inch / a few centimeters. Kaiser Wilhelm II would have probably lived had the doctors not botched the surgery to remove skull fragments and got it infected. He was alive for three months afterwards.

This sounds to me more like Right-Wing fear of the Socialist' pro-gun policy in America more than any legitimate criticism of Annie Oakley.

I wonder if the Kaiser would have intervened in the Russian Revolution on his cousin's side, instead of Germany sitting the whole thing out. That could butterfly away the Societ Union.

Obviously she was in the pay of French Communards, who rightly feared the glory the Kaiserreich would achieve under the Martyr Kaiser.

Does anyone think that there could have been anything worse than the long Chaos that followed the assassination of the Franz Ferdinand? The series of low intensity wars throughout the former Dual Monarchy, the continual attempts by the Russian Empire to intrude into Europe, the occasional Anglo "peace keeping" in the Balkens nearly sparking several wars. Truly, Communism taking root in Turkey changed the course of the 20th Century....

Yeah.. I'm sorry, But Annie Oakley was a left wing socialist nut job who deliberately murdered one of the most powerful men in the world to advance her decadent communard ideologies. She should've been quartered at the gallows like the criminal she was. Not forgiven and welcomed back into society

Things like the Paris Incident are perfect examples of why a complete ban of any and all gun ownership is needed to protect humanity

OOC: Sorry, just having a bit of fun. :p

The rise of Communism in North America, Russia, and Turkey was not as a result of Annie Oakley killing the Kaiser or some insidious conspiracy. It was the result of massive economic forces and the systematic disenfranchisement of the peoples of Eastern Europe by Empires.

Ive been noticing a lot more of our members from the CoN (Concert of Nations) have been quite uppity after the USSR / USSA join mission to Mars two months ago.

Come on, just because we beat you to the Moon and Mars doesn't mean we are going to hurt you or you have to be mad. You should worry about your own workers for that.

Stop acting like we're some kind of reactionary hellhole. We have extensive social security since the 50's, and we don't have a stagnating directed economy like yours. You'll see, the "great" socialist system will collapse soon enough, costly Mars landings or not, just like Keynes and Hitler predicted. Time is on our side.

OOC: yes, Adolf Hitler is an influential economist.

Next you'll be telling us that the Jews brought down the Ottoman Empire.
One really could make the argument they did. Those radical Zionist revolutions leading to the Jerusalem pogroms directly led to Anglo-German intervention, and those wouldn't have happened without the Jewish world community egging them on.

That old conspiracy theory again? Next you'll be telling us that the Jews brought down the Ottoman Empire.

Well, Trotsky could barely speak Turkish! And explain to me how you end up with a Socialist Revolution starting in Milwaukee so soon afterwards? But I digress. The Strasbourg to Bucharest Deucstch Prosperity Organization is leading the world, especially when it comes to the Multiplenetworkrequestenprocessservers you are currently reading the CommonWeb on... Having wireless repeaters floating in Zeppelins instead of unsightly towers was a stroke of Germanic genius!

OOC: I always take DBWI's as a chance to take my joint love of the absurd and Rule of Cool and crank it to an eleven.

Do we want to bring up the fact that Wilhelm Hohenzollern volunteered for the performance on the spur of the moment? I know that we already brought out the old "manslaughter" piece, but I want to know if you think that Wilhelm was in on his own assassination.

I'm going to recommend that no one take the man named "Kaiser" seriously.

Because she was insane? why else do people like her do what they do?

So all trick shooters are insane? I mean it's not like she's crazy. William Tell Routines where part of her act. It's hardly crazy to say she just screwed up at a very unlucky moment.

"stagnating directed economy"? That is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard. Get 15% of your population out from below the poverty line before you insult a working system(I'm assuming you're from the WEU)

Well, I dunno, For one, this would butterfly the ascension of Frederick III, who cemented German relations with Austria-Hungary. And Buffalo Bill might have been able to keep his show running for a while instead of closing it down in 1892.

OOC: Right-wing pro-gun socialists? Now that's interesting. Not quite so convinced about the U.S. going full Commie, though, TBH.

IC: Well, do keep in mind that the Socialist Party only adopted a pro-gun stance after the Klan and several other terrorist groups started causing a huge shitload of trouble at the end of the '50s and thru the middle '60s.....conversely, many right-wingers only started becoming anti-gun after weapons started falling into the hands of Communists and minorities, Mexicans and blacks in particular.

As for the doctors, I agree. They *really* screwed it up big time.

Obviously she was in the pay of French Communards, who rightly feared the glory the Kaiserreich would achieve under the Martyr Kaiser.

Truly, Communism taking root in Turkey changed the course of the 20th Century....

OOC: Umm.....Communism in Turkey? I'm sorry to break it to you, but I don't think that would work, TBH. There was hardly any socialist activity in Turkey at that time and short of the Young Turks being radically different, which is highly unlikely, I can't see a successful Communist Turkey.....of course, that doesn't mean it can't be tried.

IC: Umm.....you do realize that the Turkish Revolution actually mostly failed, right? I mean, sure, you had the Kurdish State and Free Alexandretta, but even the former had failed by the end of World War II, both back in the hands of the Turkish Union by 1948(though, ironically enough, just as the Alawite state in southern Syria was just being molded).

That old conspiracy theory again? Next you'll be telling us that the Jews brought down the Ottoman Empire.

Yeah, I've heard that one a thousand times myself, mostly from hardcore Neo-Ottoman nationalists and radical Islamists looking to destroy Israeli Palestine.....and the occasional anti-Semitic crackpot here in the States(like Jacob Winrod for example).

OOC: As I mentioned earlier, I'm not all that convinced the U.S. could really go full Commie, and, I might add here. without something truly radical happening, a la Jello's Red Dawn. But maybe it'd be something more along the lines of Finland, maybe? I dunno.

Well, Trotsky could barely speak Turkish! And explain to me how you end up with a Socialist Revolution starting in Milwaukee so soon afterwards? But I digress. OOC: Well, I've seen worse, TBH.

IC: Well, I dunno. Germany may be a leader in cable technology, that may be true, but the Internet(and the World Wide Web!) was originally invented right here in the U.S.; TCP technology is Canadian, by the way. And the Eurasian CommonWeb technology was originally British.

So all trick shooters are insane? I mean it's not like she's crazy. William Tell Routines where part of her act. It's hardly crazy to say she just screwed up at a very unlucky moment.

Well, England's not so bad, at least. It's Spain, Portugal, Sicily, and certain parts of Italy(Sudtirol & Udine, anyone?) that have the real poverty issues for the most part.....honestly, just 35 years ago, Sicily in particular was almost as poverty-ridden as Polish Galicia just before the end of the Grand Detente! Things have gotten better, yes, but there's lots of room for improvement.

OOC: From what I understand, the US is more socialist than communist ITTL. Like Finland.

IC: I don't have anything against the WEU, but I'm still very glad I was born in the States. I just take Universal Healthcare, Good Education, and many more liberties too much for granted to have to live in another part of the world.

IC: Ah yes, true for me as well. :D
